Good morning everybody,

I have bought my laptop 1 year ago and everything was going ok, i installed many programs (Adobe illustrator) and games (PES2011) and many others and i faced no problems.
One day, my cousin used the laptop to watch a new movie but he forgot to charge the battery during that time until the laptop shuts down alone due to empty battery.
On the next day, i tried to power on my laptop it starts normally until it reached the Windows 7 logo it automatically shuts down. I tried again for several times with the same result then a blue screen with white writings on it was displayed on the screen (harddisk failure).
I bought a new Toshiba 500GB HDD and burned a new Windows 7 Ultimate x64 DVD to install a fresh new copy of it but i have faced the following:
1- when I power on the laptop it works normally.
2- I press F12 to choose the device to boot from (Boot from DVD)
3- It starts normally and a windows 7 screen appears with a loading bar. It is filled quickly in the first time then a new screen appears with a loading bar starts to fill but after around 75% of the loading bar is filled the laptop shuts down.
I tried to restart it for several times with the same result.

I make the following points to try to restart the laptop but always with the same result:
1- Remove the new HDD and then insert it
2- Remove the Rams and then insert them
3- Remove the battery and then insert it.

Laptop Description
Lenovo IdeaPad Y560:
Intel Core I3
4GB Ram
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730

Please I need your help in solving this problem ASAP and thanks in advance

Hello Hasan and welcome to Seven Forums.

Please forgive me but I'm a little confused. You say:

I bought a new Toshiba 500GB HDD and burned a new Windows 7 Ultimate x64 DVD to install a fresh new copy of it but i have faced the following:
1- when I power on the laptop it works normally.
2- I press F12 to choose the device to boot from (Boot from DVD)
3- It starts normally and a windows 7 screen appears with a loading bar. It is filled quickly in the first time then a new screen appears with a loading bar starts to fill but after around 75% of the loading bar is filled the laptop shuts down.
I tried to restart it for several times with the same result.

- Are you replacing the original laptop hard drive with the new Toshiba or is the Toshiba an external USB hard drive?
- Are you trying to clean install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 to the original laptop hard drive or to the new Toshiba?
- Where did you get the ISO file for Windows 7 Ultimate?

Hello Marsmimar and thanks for your reply,

Yes I replaced the original WD HDD that was damaged with the Toshiba 500GB HDD and i am trying to install Widows 7 to the new Toshiba.
I took the ISO file from my friend who installed it on his laptop and is working properly.

Thanks for the clarification. :)

After installing a new hard drive, you must partition it (and then format it) before it can be used by Windows 7. Did you do that? These articles should help explain the process.

How To Partition a Hard Drive in Windows 7

How To Format a Hard Drive in Windows 7

Once the new drive has been partitioned and formatted you should be able to install Windows 7. However, you can't use the ISO file itself for the installation. The ISO has to be burned to to a blank DVD and then that DVD becomes the installation media. If the ISO was burned to a DVD and that's what you're trying to use, it's possible that the DVD became damaged in some way and that's why it isn't working for you. You could always download your own clean ISO file, save it to desktop, and then burn it to a new DVD. You can get the ISO from here.

Just a friendly reminder: during the installation process you will be asked to re-activate Windows 7. You will need the 25-digit Product Key that came with your computer. The Product Key is tied to that machine and the original version of Windows 7 that was on the machine when you bought it.

Activate Windows 7 on this computer

I think that you haven't understand me clearly.
The problem is that whenever i try to power on the laptop , it will automatically shut down after 1 min.
When I boot the laptop it shows the Lenovo start up screen and starts in loading widows 7 but after 1 min it shuts down.
I tired to press F2 that transfers me to the settings but also after 1 min the laptop automatically shuts down.

I guess I'm not understanding you. So you did install Windows 7 and it's not working? Maybe there was a problem with the installation. I'd try it again. Make sure you follow all the steps in this tutorail.

You may also have a hardware problem. Maybe the new Toshiba is defective.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. Next if an EFI BIOS, enable Legacy BIOS, set DVD drive first to boot, HD second. Then set SATA controller to AHCI. Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. We are creating the partition here to mark it Active which overcomes certain install failures.

Thanks gregrocker for your help.
I will try these steps and i hope it will work.

I Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. Next if an EFI BIOS, enable Legacy BIOS, set DVD drive first to boot, HD second. Then set SATA controller to AHCI. Save changes and Exit.
It restarts and boots from the DVD drive and a Windows 7 screen appears with a loading bar in the bottom of the screen and with the same results.
It shut down after it became around 75% of the loading bar.

Then from the link provided download another ISO for your licensed version and burn to DVD using tool provided.

if that fails write it to flash stick to see if it stalls the same. That would indicate a hardware prob. Test your HD and RAM from Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start

I have already tried another original copy but i get the same results.
I even removed the new Toshiba 500GB HDD and installed the old WD 500GB HDD where Windows 7 was installed the same thing happened: the laptop shuts down after around 1 minute.
I think that is a motherboard problem Do you agree?

Possible but eliminate the RAM and HD first by testing each with extended CD scan. Try also with one stick of RAM, then rotate. Use slot closest to CPU.

I removed the RAM and HD and let the laptop boots. A black screen appears for around 1 minute also and then it shuts down automatically.
I tried to boot it with one RAM without the HD and then with HD but always the same result.
Before this happened my cousin was using it to watch a movie and he slept while he was watching and he forgot to charge the laptop and when he wake up the second day he saw that the laptop was off.
May be this info can help

Remove the battery and AC power, hold Start button down to release residual power.

Try running with only AC power.

Then shut down, insert battery and try with it.

Test the hardware.

Thank you sir for your help.
I made all what you can expect but no result. I will send it to a computer center to see where the problem is.
How can i test if the motherboard is not functioning properly?
