BootMgr is MIA if install HDD selected in BIOS

After an attempt to dual boot my system with 32 bit OS, I couldn't boot back into 64, it wasn't even an option. So, I figured I must have messed up the install and it was time for a clean one. Now I get an option to dual boot windows 7 or windows 7 (recovered).

Recovered is the one I want, but if I switch my boot HDD to the one that Windows 7 (recovered) is on, bootmgr is suddenly MIA.

I have not a clue how to restore it, and I even wiped the second HDD clean.

Hello LS.



The boot files are/were on the HDD you had as boot first and changing the HDD order made the BIOS not see the boot disk, you could have put it back as it was and all would have been ok.

That's what would normally occur, but I didn't change the HDD order until bootmgr was missing, and changing the order made booting to successful windows 7 possible.

Unfortunately, I took control of bootmgr, set it to what should have been the proper settings, and the entire system stopped working. So here I am on a clean install. Solved, but not the way I wanted it to be solved :( Thanks guys for the help, though!

Though, on a side note, Windows seems to not be having the original issues I had to deal with on my first install, so this might have been fate catching up to me, as I was running from the inevitable. ;)

On separate HD multi-boots it's best to unplug the other OS HD during install. Then boot either via BIOS Boot Order or BIOS Boot Menu Fkey.

For future reference, post back a screenshot with all HD's plugged for someone to read and it will be pretty easy to spot the prob.
