BOOTMGR is missing ctrl+delete to restart

This seems like a fairly common issue but I haven't read another post that describes my situation exactly. There seems to be so many solutions offered to this but I don't know which one is best for me at this point.

My system froze, so in an attempt to recover without pulling the plug I pulled my SD card from the slot, which is what I was previously working from. When I did that, a huge static spark arced from the card to the slot.

Next, I held down the power and restarted to find the BOOTMGR missing.

I have 3x WD 1TB internal drives, one of which has my Seven OS on it.
2x SG 500GB drives
No other drive contains an operating system.

If I unplug all my SATA cables to disconnect, I boot from my operating drive just fine.

How do I fix this problem?

In BIOS, check that your boot drive is still properly assigned. While there, validate all other settings.

Computers really do not like being zapped.

It is possible that the zap changed some settings.

Ok, so heres the thing, I don't really know how to differentiate between the three WD drives in BIOS. They are all the same and they all appear with the same model number. Is there anyway of re-naming them in disk management? For this reason, I can't tell which is specified as my boot drive in my BIOS.

On the mobo, they attach to ports labeled SATA0, SATA1, etc

This corresponds to boot order selection values, Disk1, Disk2...

You wrote that if you unplug all but one drive, it boots. Plug in more, it boots to BOOTMGR Missing.

Specifically points to fault in boot order. The error comes from BIOS, not Windows. Nothing you do in Windows will address the problem.

Ah Perfect. That makes a heap of sense. My optical drive is in SATA0, and my Boot Drive is in SATA3. My other two WD drives are in SATA 1 and 2. In my BIOS, I go to boot order and all it offers me is 1, 2 and 3. Beside each number shows each one of my WD drives....but I can't tell them apart on this screen. Is there another spot in the BIOS where I can specify my SATA3 port as my second boot device? Or maybe I'm not looking at this correctly.

Yes, there is a place in BIOS to make this selection. I could be coy, but I won't - IF you will list your system specs. Can't help you if I don't know what board.

And take this time to re-arrange your SATA drives. Boot drive in SATA0, optical drive in SATA last.

Mobo SATA0 = BIOS Disk1
Mobo SATA1 = BIOS Disk2

This will make it easier to know where you are when you select boot order.

DeVandal, I switched my SATA ports as you suggested and it booted fine with all drives connected. Thanks Again.

While not necessary, a logical pattern applied to any process makes troubleshooting much easier.

The real problem was the static charge. You might want to modify your environment to reduce the likelihood of recurrence.

Ha ha, the humidifier is now set up and running. Also, I find the metal lamp next to me pulls the charge off me if there is one.
