Hi

I have just bought a new laptop and also installed a new 256gb SSD... I have just used Norton Ghost and copied the win7 64 bit OS from the HDD direct to SSD.

I chnaged the proity boot sequence in the BIOS to SSD but get BOOTMGR is missing error...

Ghost doesnt seem to assist you with boot issues just the copying...

thanks

You can replace the C:\ with the letter in which you have installed Windows 7 on.

Step #4 has a note which highlights this exact point.

My guess would be that you forgot to copy the System Partition. Have a look here about the steps - but you can use Ghost in lieu of Macrium. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/149969-ssd-install-transfer-operating-system.html

yes,,, I thought I cracked it... as I created a 100mb system reserved partition from the notes on the forum but still the same error...
Is the 100MB partition the 'active' partition. You can check that with the bootable CD of Partition Wizard.

Unplug all but the SSD, Mark System Reserved Partition Active, then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times.

If this fails reimage the SSD this time choosing to copy the MBR and Track0, mark SysReserved Active.

Did you say you had constructed the 100mb partition on the SSD? Was it not on the HD orginally. If this is the case you must mark it Active and run 3 Startup Repairs for the installer or Repair CD to write the System boot files to it.

If this fails, mark C Active and run up to 3 Repairs to start it.
