Bootmgr is missing

My pc is displaying the bootmgr is missing message when trying to boot. i have windows 7 installed onto an SSD and use a hard disk drive for everything else. i have the windows 7 disc and can only get into startup repair when all other hard drives (SSD and hard disk drive) are disabled in the boot order list and the cd drive is 1st on the boot list in BIOS. i ran start up repair but it didn't resolve the problem, i have also tried the various bootrec.exe commands and some others i found on these forums and the internet, all not providing a fix. Any ideas, or do i sense a clean install of windows coming along?

Bootmgr is likely still there. Sounds like you have the wrong partition marked active.

Always unplug all other HDs, Mark Partition Active the intended boot partition - either C or System Reserved if you have it - before running Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times.

When you plug back in the other HD's, make sure Win7 HD remains set first to boot in BIOS setup. Do that now, too, using the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key to trigger your DVD.

That has done the trick, thanks for your help, is it ok to go back into bios now and put the SSD back as 1st in the boot order list so i don't have to keep waiting for the 'press any key to boot from cd' message to disappear

Yes I wrote in the steps earlier to set the the booting SSD/HD set first to boot anyway, then when you need to boot a disk use the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key.
