Solved Bootmgr is missing

Hi Everyone,

I have a problem. I accidentally formated all partitions. So When I wanted to clean install Windows 7. It stucked at 0 in Expanding windows files section. Bootmgr is missing. When I tried to do start up repair. There was no Windows installed.

Pleeeeeease Help me!

Hi Aska, welcome to the Forum.

If you formatted all partitions on your hard drive, then a start up repair will not work. You will have to do a full reinstall of Windows.

What do Windows discs do you have?. You will need a Windows 7 DVD, so do you have one. Could you reply with this information.

Where did the Windows 7 DVD come from? Did it come with the PC or did you buy it, etc?

I bought it. I have 2 Windows 7 disks which I bought. But in this situation they both seem useless.

Did you buy them from a computer store, Microsoft or on a place like Ebay? If they are not from a reputable place (which Ebay is not) that would explain why the install is not working. == I am assuming that you did not have any problems with the PC operating before the Format, is that correct? If the Windows 7 Disks are a legal disk it should install with no problem. Maybe you could shed some light on where you purchased them and I am also curious why you purchased two of them. That is unnecessary and a waste of $100. Just curious?

No I didnt had any problems with my computer. the reason of formatting was that there were 3 Windows.old folders as the result of previous upgrades.That is why I wanted to delete them through clean installation. And formated all partitions.
What I must do but I previously used those cd's to upgrade Win7 on my comp.

I would really like to see what the CD looks like. Is it possible to take a picture of one and upload it for us to see? I am just confused as to why it is not working. They sound like Upgrade CD instead of the full version, but that should get you further than you are getting.

I cant post an image. There 2 option full and small size.1. I chose full size. 2.Then I chose small size but these two size options dont work with tapatalk or this forum options which is shown below. After this I chose tapatalk but it says I must have administrator permission.probably admin deactivated this feature and so on...

@Aska, what version of Windows did you upgrade from. You mentioned that you bought the DVDs to upgrade your computer, so I assume you had Windows XP or Vista & upgraded to Windows 7.

Did these DVDs work properly when you did the upgrade?.

No I had previously Windows7 Home edition. Afterwards with the help of This DVD of Win7 I upgraded it to Ultimate version.

The tutorials are full of very helpful information, check this link and see if it might get you going, sounds like you've formatted the drive already so this may be your only choice.

FYI for future reference you don't need to format to remove a windows.old folder, disk cleanup within Win7 can do that.

If you formatted all partitions (let's not discuss
why you did that) then there are free and
effective tools out there that can repair that. As
one solution, using another computer,
download Parted Magic and burn the ISO to a
CD/DVD. Then boot the original computer using
that disk. On it you will find GParted. On
Youtube you will find plenty of tutorials on how
to use gparted or testdisk to restore lost
partitions.

Hi, Since you formatted your drive, you could
install win 7 without any problem.
The stop at expanding stage is due to the
scratching in the disc. If you have the ISO or
any other disc , try that it will pass the expand
stage to install windows , if there is no side
issue.
The install.wim should expand the files. In
some system, it takes a little more time to
expand due to the repair in hdd.
I would suggest you to go to the website of the
hdd of your to download the tool , diagnostic ,
one and boot it from the cd. Normally those
tools are available in dos form, so it would be
booting automatically to show the hard dsik. If
there is no failure of hdd, then you can format
there . There will be options to format c:. Do it
,with the help of that software. if your hdd is
Seagate, then the link would give an idea to you

Thank you for quick responce. I have 2 disks of
Windows 7. and a removable disk where I also
have 2 Windows 7 files for fomatting. When I
use Disks there appeare same problem at the
exact same stage of installation. it gets stucked
at 0% at expanding Windows files. then error
message comes Error 0x80070017 saying that
bootmgr is missing. But when I use removable
disk for formatting The message saying Disk
boot failer, insert system disk and press enter

    

The boot mgr missing problem will be there if
all the things are not properly copied to the dvd.
How did you burn the OS. There are simplest
way of booting with usb, rather than dvd. For
that you must have a 4 gb pen drive. The
instructions are so simple, that you could use
without much trouble. But mind, that you
should have the original windows 7 intact with
all the files in its original form with all the files
without one missing file in any folder
particularly install.wim folder.
You could use imgburn to burn it as iso in some
other computer and then install the same , by
selecting burn to dvd by the instructions. It will
enable booting the OS, by installing the
windows from the DVD.
First you use copy files to image to burn to Iso,
and then just burn that to dvd using , the
approprate menu, burn image to dvd menu.
That is so easy and imgburn is free tool. ' The

you have to get the clean window 7 OS.
Otherwise, it will be stopping at 0%expanding.
Otherwise, if you have 4 gb pen drive , just do
the following to write to the usb and if your
computer is usb supported in bios, then you
could go to bios change the order to boot from
usb and then install the windows. In usb
method there is no failure of scratch disc.

To try the usb install do this . I copied from my
instruction to other thread in another forum.
This will definitely work if you correctly follow
The method is
first insert your 4 gb or more pen drive . Go to
elevated command prompt and type these
commands. the following will be
easy to understand
C:\Windows\system32>diskpart Enter
Microsoft DiskPart version 6.1.7000
Copyright (C) 1999-2008 Microsoft
Corporation.
On computer:----Fistly type Diskpart and enter
DISKPART> list disk
Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt

Disk 0 Online 149 GB 0 B
Disk 1 Online 3834 MB 0 B ()pen drive disk to
be selected based on size
DISKPART> select disk 1 Enter
Disk 1 is now the selected disk.
DISKPART> clean Enter
DiskPart succeeded in cleaning the disk.
DISKPART> create partition primary Enter
DiskPart succeeded in creating the specified
partition.
DISKPART> format fs=fat32 quick enter
100 percent completed
DiskPart successfully formatted the volume.
DISKPART> active Enter
DiskPart marked the current partition as active.
DISKPART> exit
Leaving DiskPart...
C:\Windows\system32>exit
. Then insert your dvd in to the drive.
open the installation dvd. Select all copy and
send to pen drive.
It
will work 100% without fail. If your cd drive is
pucca. Moreover, while
installing windows, you could be amazed at the
speed in extracting from
usb. Usb is safe and you need not bother about
scratching.

pendrive. Shut down and reboot. Then just
select the priority to boot
from usb in the bios, if you have. If that is not,
please download plbt
iso, a third party program, which will give you a
screen menu from cd,
if you boot from cd first,which will have usb as
a choice menu. If you
click that one, it will boot from pen drive.
N.B: Enter means , press the Enter key after
each command
