Try running the start up repair a few more times. That sometimes fixes the problem.

If that doesn't work try the steps outlined in this MSN guide which shows you a few more ways to get your MBR back.

When you boot into your Win7 installer/repair disk and run startup repair, it tries each fix individually, beginning with efforts to repair and ending (usually on the third try) with rewriting the MBR.

So it must be run again when it doesn't restart the OS.

do you have 2 hard drives

Hi,

I am having the "BOOTMGR is missing" error. I don't know what happened but when I restarted my laptop, the screen prompted the message. I tried inserting Win7 disc to try startup repair (as shown in most forums) but the disc won't boot even if I tried pressing the necessary function key (F9 for my laptop).

Can someone please help me? I don't know what to do... :( and i need to make my laptop up and running soon. Please help. Thank you!

Hi,

I'm having "BOOTMGR is missing" problem in my ASUS K43S. I tried inserting the Windows 7 DVD and rapidly pressed the F9 key to run the boot from CD but nothing is happening.

I also tried restarting it several times but I still can't boot from the DVD.

Can somebody please help me? Thank you!

The F key for a ASUS is F8.

Hi theog,

Thank you for your quick response. According to the user-manual, my laptop's F key is F9. However, I also tried pressing F8, F10, F11 and F12 in every restart the I made just to make sure. Still, I wasn't able to run the boot.

Did you have Boot Booster enable? If yes
Disable Boot Booster in BIOS setup before you perform system recovery from USB flash disk, external optical drive or hidden partition.

Thanks theog and gregrocker for your response.

Finally got it to work. I tried pressing each function keys on every restart that I did and was able to run the Aptio System Utility. From there I changed something under the Boot Tab and gave priority for the laptop to boot from CD/DVD Drive. After that, my laptop restarted and I was able to boot from the disc and follow the procedures given in most forums.

My laptop is up and running now! Yay! :D
