BOOTMGR missing after Restore Point

This is my first post in the forum, but I really need help.

This is what happened:
I tried to install the LCD driver and sw for my Samsung LCD, then it crashed and unable to boot up properly, can't get even inot he windows screen.

All methods I tried failed, so I had to reinstall.
After reinstalling Win7, I perform a restore to a point which I've created previously.

Now with this restore point, I'm not able to boot normally with my HDD installed with and restored Win7 x64 Ultimate.
I will encounter the error msg "BOOTMGR missing, Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart" something like that.

I've have to enable CD-ROM boot(with the Win7 installation Disc in drive), followed by HDD to be able to boot normally.

Pls assist.
I've already tried running RE and perform startup repair, no help.

I've also run and also no help.

This happened after restoring a system image?


Did you boot from the Win7 DVD and run a start up repair at least twice?
Sometimes it takes at least 2 consecutive times to fully repair.

It may take up to 3 Startup Repairs to repair or rewrite the System Boot files if necessary.

Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times

Startup Repair automates all boot repair commands and System Restore, too. But you should run System Restore from the System Recovery Options just to be sure before reinstalling, or adequate repairs have not been attempted.

A monitor should not need a driver installed and certainly not a software package. Optional Windows Updates will deliver the driver if needed.

I tried 2 times consecutively and failed. (Meaning without restarting, still in the RE env)

Error msg was no OS found on local disk.

I will try the Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times now.

Contents of Error msg was noOSinstalled.

How is still possible?

When I perform a bcdedit /ScanOS
It returned that there was only 1 installlation and that was:
c:\windows.old\windows

Now I'm quite confused.

It's only finding the installation that is placed in the windows.old folder when you upgrade. You have serious corruption of your OS which is likely irreparable.

See if you can force it to see the Win7 installation by running bootrec /fixboot and bootrec /fixmbr from Repair Command Line.

You can also boot free bootable CD to see if the Win7 partition is still intact. If not, use the Partition Recovery Wizard. If so, make sure it is marked Active, highlight the Win7 disk, then from DIsk tab run Rebuild MBR. If this fail, try the three separate Startup Repairs again with Win7 marked Active.

If this fails you've done pretty much everything that can be done, so what I would do is copy out your files using the DVD/Repair CD: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Then run full Factory Recovery if factory OEM, or clean reinstall following these steps to get a perfect reinstall which you can then image so you never have to reinstall again: Reinstalling Windows 7

Are you able to boot with DVD in drive?

Could be boot sector corruption if OS will only boot with DVD, but is not even seen by WinRE.

You may need to wipe the HD from DVD Command Line before Reinstalling Windows 7:
Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command

Can you boot Partition Wizard CD to see which partition is marked Active now? You can also use Diskpart from Command Line to Detail Partition until you find which is Active.

I used Diskpart now and this is what I got below:
I noticed that both my main system partition in C:\ (DISK 0) is Active as well as my secondary HDD F: (DISK 1).
In this Drive F: (DISK 1), it has folders like "$WINDOWS.~BT" and "WindowsImageBackup".

Should I set this disk partition as "inactive"?

Thanks SIW2 and gregrocker, setting this disk 1 partition 1 as inactive using Diskpart solved my problem. Now I dont' need to use the Win7 disk to boot anymore.

1 Question the 500HDD in my ReadyNAS Duo with RAID is quite full.

I wanna transfer this current 1TB HDD(PC) to my ReadyNAS Duo and use the 500GB HDD(RAID Inside my NAS) back to this PC.
What should I do backup the current image?
Backup the current working image to my secondary 80GB HDD.
Install the Win7 on the 500GB HDD
and restore the image to this 500GB HDD?

That should work. Be sure to detach the 1tb before reimaging to the imported 500gb. There is no "Install the Windows 7 on the 500GB HDD" step needed if you're reimaging the 500gb from the 80gb stored image. System Image Recovery
