was formating at 4% or the system install ?
i think what your going to have to do is reformate the drive (losing all the important files).
then reinstall windows ..

your going to have to format the harddrive and then reinstall windows .

btw you should never stop a format or install at anytime .that will only lead to trouble as you already found out.

Hello fillitup, welcome to Seven Forums!

Have a look at this tutorial at the link below, it explains how to do a wipe (secure erase) that is much better than a format, to the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) and you can use the system boot disk listed at the second tutorial to boot the PC to diskpart; be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

If you don't have disks then how were you able to format your HD already? Or are you using the word "format" to describe some other repair attempt you've made?

You need a Repair CD to attempt repairs if you haven't somehow overwritten Win7. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html

Boot the Repair CD and run Startup Repair repeatedly: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html?ltr=S Report back to let us know what happens.

If Repairs don't work, try marking Win7 partition active to see if they work then: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/71432-partition-mark-active.html

If no luck, then you need to find a way to Recover or Reinstall. If Win7 came pre-installed on your computer, you should have either made Repair Disks when you set up your computer or you can run the Recovery Partition by tapping the key given for Factory Recovery on the first screen. If you don't see it, look in the Manual on the Support Downloads webpage for your computer model. We can help you find it if you tell us your computer make/model.

If you have no factory Recovery then you need to find any Win7 installer to clean reinstall using these steps: http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/125874-re-install-windows-7-a.html#post1086729

You can copy out your files first using the Repair CD or Installation DVD: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/93347-copy-paste-windows-recovery-console.html
