botched ATI update, cant boot from that install have questions.

I have 2 installations of windows on my main computer (signature rig). I booted my second installation and while updating the ATI driver the computer BSOD'd me. I have been unable to boot that installation in safe mode, startup repair did not work citing ''bad driver'' booting in vga mode did not work, and I keep getting the ''this version of system tools is not compatible with this version of windows" while trying to use the repair disc I made. What is the next step? The stop code on the startup BSOD is 00000007E I believe or FE. Searching that parameter got me to the point where it seems the ATI driver is bad and I'm not sure how to fix it.

I also switched the video card to a NVIDIA one and that didnt help either.

You can boot from cd/dvd and run sfc /scannow
hopefully it'll find whatever video file was botched and restore it.

can I do that from a command prompt in my other installation?

you can check the files of a 'offline' installation with it. I've never used that switch though

the only way I'm able to get to a command prompt using the DVD is to hit shift f10 at the first screen. It keeps telling me system repair options are not compatible with this system. When I unplug the drive for my other installation and keep that one plugged in and do the sfc/scannow command from the command prompt it says ''is waiting on a system repair'' please restart windows and run sfc again"

I couldn't figure out the syntax to sfc/scannow the offline installation. For the record if you can help it's the E drive on my computer and is a 64 bit windows 7 ultimate installation.

I was just trying to access the repair options. I used both a 64 and 32 bit disc with the set_architecture command to verify which disc I was using and neither of them worked. System Recovery Option is not compatible with the version of windows you are trying to repair There is where I got the information to check the version of system repair options.
