Bought a new monitor! Causing sound problems..

Hey guys, new here, this is my first post!

What I'm trying to do is play music through both my laptop speakers, and the speakers in the new monitor. I'm connecting the monitor through a RGB cable, and the sound through the standard 3.5mm jack on the front of my laptop.

Anyway, that is the goal! The problem is that when I plug the new monitor into my laptop, the sound starts playing only through the monitor and not through my laptop speakers. If i pull the cable out, the music starts playing through my laptop again.

Anyone have any clue how to make it so that when I plug in an external sound output device, the laptop will still play sound? It would be pretty much the exact same thing as putting in headphones on my laptop and wanting the laptop to play music through it's speakers at the same time.

Welcome!

Unfortunately, that would require some serious tweaking. I suspect you would need to actually modify the hardware to accomplish that.

I've been looking for a way to do that too, so if you find a solution, could you let me know?

I have actually done it before, while using headphone accidentally. But it was a setting in a program, allowing me to change the sound output device. I.e. the sounds from that program were played on my laptop speakers, and then the music I was playing in the background and the normal "Windows" sounds were coming through my headphones. I guess it is a different thing to just want the sound to replicate on both devices, didn't expect it would be that hard to achieve. :S

And yeah, if I do find out, no worries haha.

Instead of your speaker jack on the laptop plug the speakers into your headphone jack and this should allow both the TV speakers and the laptops speakers to work.
