Solved Bought windows 7 used licence, activation only by phone! is it legit?

I bought windows 7 ultimate license on-line for good price. the seller said only phone activation.

however it did activate by phone. i started wondering why only phone activation.

I looked at licence by slmgr it shows retail channel.

is this legitimate copy and can i activate on-line the next time??

why only phone activation?

I updated the KB971033 and still activated.

You can determine this with certainty by calling MS Customer service. This helps because once they verify it you have a permanent record of that for any reinstalls and they'll task Support to get it activated no matter what. Retail can migrate and reinstall as often as you want as long as it's only on one PC at a time. Phone activation sometimes is required if there's doubt about that, with a series of numbers traded to update the hardware ID associated with the key. When they ask how many PC's its installed upon the only correct answer is "One" after which they take that as permission to deactivate it on any other device which hardware ID had been associated with it.

We saw tons of bad eBay licenses, so I'd confirm its validity now in case it loses activation so you can file for PayPal refund or challenge the charge with your bank. It is a crime to sell phony or pirated software keys, and MS will sometimes award you with a free copy if you cooperate into an investigation where you lose money.

The best way to know whether a license is genuine is its provenance.
Do you have the proper packaging? was the source legitimate?
If it was a 'key-only' purchase from other then MS, then it is definitely counterfeit!


To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool

The Product ID doesn't fall in the range of any known Subscription service IDs that I'm aware of - but it's also one that I don't recall seeing before.

As far as MGADiag is concerned, it's genuine. Since there appears to be some doubt about provenance, I would phone the Activation Centre, and ask them what type of Key it is (...is it an MSDN-type Key?), and get confirmation that it's a valid Retail market Key.

Did they tell you what type of Key it is? - that was the critical question, because it's part of provenance.

No they did not. What does is mean part of provenance?
I told the person i bought the license key online...
