Hey guys

My new PC arrived today and I still didn't manage to get Windows 7 running on it..
Here are some basic information so you know what I got

16GB DDR3 RAM
2TB SATA Memory
Intel i7-4770
Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 1,5 GB

Anyway, I downloaded Windows 7 Professional 64bit + SP1 from Chip and burned it with ImgBurn on a 8gb DVD+R DL,
because my PC came with no OS (only Free DOS).
I put in the DVD and I'm also able to start the installation until the first reboot, after my PC has rebooted I get the Error Message:
"Disk error
Press any key to restart"
If I do so it loads for a second and then give me another error message:
"Reboot and Select proper Boot Device,
or Insert Boot Media in selected device and press a key"

I can do what I want at this point, the only options I got is to watch the error messages or install again..
I downloaded 2 different versions of Windows 7 and burned 4 DVD's - No achievment..
I'm really starting to get mad and upset at the same time, I spent a whole day on my brand new Computer and couldn't even get windows on it.

I really hope you guys can help me, I searched through the net and everywhere, nobody seems to have exactly my problem, I just can't find any help..

Thanks in advance!

Download a Partition wizard ISO file ( it's free and You can find it in the net ) , burn it on a disc and boot it on the PC. With it's help format your HD. Try to boot again your windows7 disc. You'd better create about a 200Gb partition for Your C drive with the OS .The rest of space You'll format later through the disc management. Maybe the mistake is if You try to install the OS on the whole HD space - I've heard someone with the same problem.

You can delete/create partitions with the win7 install DVD. Partition Wizard isn't needed for the the things you want

Boot from win7 install DVD. Press shift+f10 as explained here http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/682-command-prompt-startup.html then do:

Code:
diskpart
list disk
[COLOR=red]You only see one disk? What is the size?[/COLOR]
exit

Was FREEDOS on disk and did that boot successfully?

I'm checking this out now.
FREEDOS is installed in the computer (no disc) and I was able to boot it successfully yeah, but I think it doesn't work anymore :x

So harddisk is (was working). It is in the boot sequence. You're having a smaal problem (most likely... you have 1 large partition was FREEDOS which is a FAT32 partition!). Win7 needs NTFS

When I'm installing Win 7 I got 2 Partitions to pick, the first one is FREEDOS with 3.9GB size and 3.9GB size left, typ System.
And the Second I can pick is Partition 2 with 1854GB size 1846GB left and Typ primary

I can only install windows 7 on partition 2, because partition 1 isn't NTFS formated, an information message tells me that.

I don't know what to do now :x

Any idea what harddrive 1 is? Anyway drive 0 is the 2TB drive.

Code:
diskpart
select disk 0
clean

Reboot again form install DVD and try to install. Post results.

Problem was: FREEDOS was "system", so marked active ... so boot partition where bootmgr comes. Not allowed on FAT32 partition... must be NTFS

Ok I just entered the lines of code you gave me in the CMD of the Win 7 Installation, now I'm gonna restart the PC and install Win7 Again, is there anything special I have to take care of?
So you know what the problem is? :o

You did the "clean" command on disk 0. So actually deleting all partitions.

Win7 boots from a partition on disk that is marked "active". There is the boot manager and bootmenu located. You never see it when you have only one operating system, but it's still there. In bootmenu is a list of operating systems to choose from and on what partitions they are installed. Win7 install doesn't change what partition is active, but makes it dual boot instead (in case you had already a boot menu with vista for example).

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html gives you all info. Using 6. Click on the Custom (advanced) option.. you could delete partitions as well.

WIN7 cannot be installed on FAT32 partition. But also active partition must be NTFS (for normal win7 bootmenu). So you had to make FREEDOS partition INACTIVE so win7 could decide himself where to place bootmgr and bootmenu.

Since you don't need FREEDOS you could have deleted the partition as well. Then it's gone and not active as well. The "clean" command did clean the disk totally (only first 1MB of disk, but there is the partition table).

Besides cleaning the HD as referenced you could have also simply deleted all partitions shown using the Drive Options in Steps 7 and 8 of Clean Install Windows 7.

This is always the best way to install or reinstall Win7.

Now I'd also look over the steps in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which compile the tools and methods which work best in Win7 based on tens of thousands of installs we've helped with here.

So , as I said , first wipe and format to NTFS all the hard drive with all thing it has on it with the Partition wizard. Then remove the disc with PW , put the disc with the Windows 7 and boot it. Create a partition - it will be in Mb - so write a number of 200 000 Mb - it will be about 200 Gb , and install the OS on it. After the installation through the disc management partition the unallocated left space of the HD.
