Hi, i looked this over on google and did not find the info i want.

Basically on a mac laptop when the battery runs out and then you turn on the laptop again it preserves its state from last time; i dont remmemer a crash on a mac OS so i cannot speak for it.

In windows 7 is there a built in tool for the same, apart from "Backup and restore" so we can bring it to the exact same state with the same files open etc?

Please also mention some good 3rd party tools you know for this effect.

Cheers

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

The feature that you are looking for is called hibernate. It will only be available if the video drivers support it.

Thanks UsernameIssues,

Hibernate works perfect when you want the machine powered off then bringing it back with everything as you left it. I have just enabled it and You have just saved me time with this tip.

I wonder if hibernate when not invoked will work after a power cut?

Also I'm getting bsod's followed by a memory dump quite often or when invoking certain SW. Its very annoying when involuntarily i loose my unsaved files and tasks i was doing.

Do you or anyone happens to know an app that will bring pc to same memory state after this happens?

If there was a power cut, there should still be enough battery power to put the laptop into hibernation.

If the computer is crashing with bsod, then you will lose unsaved info.

You should make a new thread here: BSOD Help and Support - Windows 7 Help Forums
