Solved Browse for Folder Dialog cannot navigate c:

Has any one seen this before?

I cannot navigate c: in any Browse for Folder Dialogs after an initial folder has been selected and browse is used again. It is 'stuck' in the last folder used with no way to traverse the drive the folder actually resides on. Hope there is a simple registry fix for this as I cannot scrub the drive and start over. I have reinstalled Windows twice but it has not helped, sadly. All and any help is much appreciated. TIA

Why is your entire "C" partition shared? Unless you have some specific reason for sharing the entire partition, that is generally considered a bad idea.

For a test, I would go into Windows Explorer and removing the Sharing from "C" and see what then happens.

Any application or the system that uses the browse for folder dialog and 'remembers' your last location on using it to take you back to the last used folder.
Example:
If I need to install drivers from c:\xyz\video\driverfolder then after installing these drivers I want to install drivers from c:\abc\network\driverfolder when presented the browse for folder it will be 'stuck' on c:\xyz\video\driverfolder since I was there last. This example is installing drivers through device manager. But any app or any part of the OS that 'remembers' the last folder this will happen. I simply have no navigation of the drive that 'contains' the last folder. Just access to that folder.

Thanks, Mark, I have tried this. Permissions was the first thing that came to mind. I do need the root shared on this machine and several others on the network. They are all local with no outside network.

This has been solved. We had a badly corrupted registry. Thanks for all the help folks. His peace upon you all.

Happened again...

This has happened here again after formatting the drive and starting over. Seems to be that installing .Net 4.0 (full-client and extended) is causing the problem. Uninstalling .Net 4.0 (full) does not fix the issue however. And doing a 2 day old restore point did not either. To correct this issue we had to install .Net 3.5 over again and it fixed the issue. If you install .Net 4.0 client only it does not cause the issue. At least here on Windows 7 x64 Ultimate machines. Hope this will save someone from formatting a drive.
