Does anyone know how to change the suffix in FireFox 4.0 when using the keyboard shortcut of Ctrl + Shift + Enter/Return as I can't seem to find it anywhere? There is no problem with IE, but I would like to know how to change it in FF from the default .org to .co.uk as it would be more logical for me, seeing as though I am from the UK.

In "about:config" in Firefox's URL bar, look for "browser.fixup.alternate.suffix". Double-click that line, and change to ".co.uk". Hit OK.

You may need to experiment with Ctrl + Enter or other combos apart from the default keyboard shortcut.

Thanks. I'll give that a try this afternoon. You'd have thought that they would have made this much simpler though.

This has been fun.

The above didn't help. However, there is an extension that seems to have done the trick. For those of you who are interested, I'll include the file here as the Mozilla website seems to crash FireFox whenever I try to access it, so I had to persevere with IE9 to download it. :sarc:

This is what I get when clicking the Source: link at the bottom of this post:

Capture2.PNG

Click
Download

to download the browser extension.

Unzip the file (it needed to be zipped so that it could be uploaded) and in FireFox invoke the Add-ons Manager by using the Ctrl + Shift + A shortcut.

Capture.PNG

Click on Extensions and then click on Capture1.PNG From the menu that appears, select Install Add-on From File... Browse to the location of the extracted file and follow the instructions to install it. You will need to restart the browser for changes to take effect.

To edit the settings, click on Options. The following images show the default settings (left) and my current settings (right).

That link (as with any other Mozilla one) crashes my FF browser. :sarc:

Having said that, I feel that this functionality should be included as standard in FF.

Doesn't sound normal to me. If it's FF in Win 7, sounds like something is screwed up in your FF install. Add-on, profile itself is corrupt, etc. If it's in Win 8, well...you know FF isn't going to be perfectly compatible for running that system yet. If it's in both, probably the first reason again.

I'm currently using W8, so that's probably the reason.

Incidentally, the only reason I am using FF is because IE9 is not functioning correctly in this build of W8 (7955). It was working in build 7850.

Nonetheless, I shall probably install FF as an alternative browser on the rest of my installs as it is very much similar to IE9 in many respects.
