Click on Start then Run or press Window key (next to left Ctrl key) +R and paste the following into the Run box, exactly as shown, including double quotes:

cmd /c "ipconfig /all > postme.txt & ping yahoo.com >> postme.txt & notepad postme.txt & del postme.txt"

and press ENTER.

A file will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the contents here. Close the Notepad window and the file will be deleted and the Command Prompt window will also close.

If you don't have a Run selection off the Start menu, see here: Enable Run Command on Windows 7 or Vista Start Menu

Your system sounds like it has a couple registry keys which may have been deleted by malware or a rouge antivirus program. You need to make sure the system is clean of malware first, but you can check and see if these services are started (or if you can start them): BFE Base filtering Engine, MpsSvc and SharedAccess.

My Computer

OS
Windows
where would i find those services to see if theyll start?

My Computer

OS
windows 7 home premium 32bit
Right click on Computer and select Manage. Scroll down to Services and look to see if the 3 services listed above are started or can be started. In the Log On tab for those services, the Local Account should be selected as the account used.

Once the services are started, you should be able to start your Windows firewall and Windows updates. If you are still infected with malware or a rootkit, the changes above will most likely revert back to where they were. You need to get your system cleaned first.

i dont even see those services. is that how they would show up in the manager?

I also noticed you are using these for DNS servers:

24.196.64.53 - vip01ftbgwi.ftbg.wi.charter.com
68.113.206.10 - 68-113-206-1.static.ftwo.tx.charter.com
24.178.162.3 - vip01spbgsc.spbg.sc.charter.com

Did you set them up that way? What if you change the DNS server, 192.168.0.1, to point to your router as it normally would? Does that make any difference?

Sorry, that's my mistake. The 3 services are listed as:
Base Filtering Engine - should be started & automatic
Windows Firewall - should be
started & automatic
Internet Connection Sharing - should be listed, doesn't need to be started.

the only one i have is ICS. the other 3 are gone. it wont let me start ICS because it says its set to be deleted or does not exsist.

BMJ, are you sure your computer is viruses free or has someone on the forum helped you remove them? I can probably get Windows Firewall up and running again, but it makes no sense to go thru it if you're still infected.

There is definitely something wrong with your system. Base Filtering Engine and Windows Firewall should definitely be there.

Quite possible you have some kind of malware infection.

I suggest posting on one of the sites that have some good malware removal folks, like:

whatthetech.com
geekstogo.com
spybot.info

You could try running Malware Bytes Anti Malware (free version) and see if it finds anything. Also do a scan with your installed anti-virus software. Id no help then go with one of the above sites. They are all busy so it may take a day or two before they can get to you.

Ive used AVG and it came up with some stuff from torrents that were false positives. but i removed them anyways. and i ran a registry cleaner from cnet and that had 260 some odd errors that i cleared up. so as far as what programs i have theyre telling me that im clean.

@ztrucker i started a topic on the geekstogo and im waiting for them to get to mine. started the thread when you had first posted it.

See if they find anything else malicious on your computer and once you're sure you're clean, post back here and we'll work on the firewall stuff. Also, it's a good idea to stay away from registry cleaners, they'll do more harm than good.

Would you post a link to the G2G forum thread please. I can't find it there. Did you use the same userid?
