browsing other windows while files are copying to another window

example is when i have files copying from one window to another or from a disc to a windows folder i go about browsing doing other things waiting for the copy to be done when it is done windows 7 will interrupt my browsing and take me to the copied over to folder why? this is annoying is it SET focus issue?

also same kind of issue why is when i am unziping or unrar files to a folder i can not click into that folder it wont allow me to windows xp was able to do this.

You may want to look at MultiCommander

It is freeware and multi-threaded. They claim the UI does not wait while file operations are carried out in the background. It got a good review on Gizmo's site.

The /separate switch launches a separate process. You would have to look in Task Manager to see if your method launches a separate process or just another window.

You could also try the folder view setting to open folders in a new window. I forget if it opens in a new process. But I do know you can open more than one view of the same folder. I write small utilities that open Explorer windows and I do know one thing, I run with Show Folders in New Windows disabled. So if there is already a folder of C: open it will not open another unless I run Explorer with the 'e' switch. Example:
ShellExecute("explorer.exe", "/e, C:", "", "open")

It also needs the comma after the e to work. Go figure.

I'm not sure if the 'e' switch is exactly the same as the /separate switch. It may just force a new window instead of replacing the active folder window. Explorer has many quirks.

A quick note to say that Teracopy uses it's own window to move/ copy files or folders leaving you to get on with other stuff without interruption. The installer gives the option to install as portable - you then need to browse to the executable to launch or create a shortcut to the executable.
