Hi all. Got this error today. very frustrating as i have no idea what it was. Ended up loading up bios reverting to factory settings and switching it off at the back and it's behaving again. but i've had weird things happening on the odd occasion. normally a restart resolves this but still annoying.

also when these bugs do happen i get a long pause or sometimes a boot error from this screen (see attached image)

thanks guys

Do you have any USB devices plugged in that it could be registering as a possible boot device? I had a video capture USB device that caused similar problems; the system thought it was a USB flash drive for some reason.

I see you have two drives, an SSD and an HDD. How do you have your hard drives managed for data and system files?

I had overclocked my processor to 4.0 with everything else on auto and haven't had problems for ages. I'm running a 2500K

Sounds like it would not be too difficult to clear the CMOS and then change settings back to how it currently is for overclocking. Whether you want to do so is up to you. It depends on how concerned you are with this intermittent problem.

A windows system process was terminated unexpectedly. Possible causes are hard disk errors... System file corruption... Viruses... Lack of Windows updates... Drivers...

How is your pagefile configured?

Also, run Disk Check with both boxes checked for all HDDs and with Automatically fix file system errors checked for all SSDs. Post back your logs for the checks after finding them using http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/96938-check-disk-chkdsk-read-event-viewer-log.html

Is your BIOS up to date? What about the firmware for the SSD? Chipset drivers up to date? See the Quote for SSDs in post #2 by usasma.

Now that you say this i almost guaramntee it is linked to the page file. This all started after a guy at work said i should move it to my second drive so i set the size custom and clicked set onto my manual HDD but then had a bsod couple days after which i knew id experienced before. I then went back and clicked set back to the SSD allowing the computer to decide it all. I honestly have no idea how to properly set it as i've been told multiple things so here's a screeny and tell me what you think. Bios updated last night after the BSOD and will check the corsair forum for firmware updates

Check for any updates through the SSD drive's support site first. Then update anything that is not available there by going to your motherboard site. Do not install motherboard updates that are the same as updates through the SSD support as they may conflict. For your motherboard drivers: if you have rev 1.0; if you have rev 1.3.

As to the pagefile concerns: sometimes moving the pagefile results in very bad side effects that cannot be fixed without doing a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html of Windows 7, so if updating all drivers, firmware, and BIOS versions does not help, you may have to go that route.

ok well i've set the page file to "allow system to automatically manage pagefile" hopefully i won't have any more problems. BIOS is updated, SSD firmware is updated, as to chipset updates how do i know what to download and what to leave :S do you recommend any driver scanning software or is that a no go?

I do not recommend driver scanning software unless it is from the driver manufacturer. The automated free tools that can be found online often provide driver updates for hardware that is not actually in the system being updated. These can cause instability.

As for which drivers to update, I would recommend that you update chipset drivers. The chipset drivers can be found on your motherboard site linked in my previous post for the proper revision version.
