I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit today from Windows XP Pro 32-bit, did a clean install. Prior to doing the install I ran Windows Upgrade Advisor which proposed no problems or compatibility issues at all with any hardware or software. The install went absolutely fine. However, upon "first time Windows loads" when it says "preparing your desktop" the BSOD then popped up.

It's been popping up at random moments. At startup when the desktop loads and during the system rating test. It's always the same BSOD error message too, which tells me its a reoccuring problem.

I've uploaded my minidump file, but the stop code is 0x119 and the error message said that "The Video Scheduler has encountered an unexpected fatal error".

I'm a fairly advanced computer user, but this BSOD is wrecking my head. I've checked all my hardware and its all functioning correctly, everything in the BIOS looks pretty ok too.

CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
Motherboard - Asus P5BSE
Memory - Corsair XMS2 4GB DDR2 (2x2GB)
Graphics Card(s) - ATI Radeon HD 4350
Sound Card - Creative X-FI Sound Blaster
Monitor(s) Displays - BenQ E2200HD
Hard Drive - 500GB SATA-3
PSU - 500w

I'll be happy to provide further information if required. Thankyou in advance :)

Hi.

Check the motherboard bios for Plug and Play OS setting. Set it to yes. The same thing happened to another Asus user a few days ago. Seems it's not the default setting for Asus boards.

Update to the latest video driver as well.

I've already installed the latest video driver, but BSOD happened after so that wasn't the solution.

The Plug and Play OS setting has been enabled from when I had XP on, so it can't be that either. Thanks anyways!

Update the chipset drivers.

Also, what version does the device manager report the driver for the video card as being, and date?

Device Manager reports the driver to be:
Version: 8.661.0.0
Date: 23/09/09

To add to the symptoms, I'm now getting random blank white screen of deaths, in which I have to turn off the computer at the power button.

Update your chipset drivers for the motherboard and for anything else in the system you can find updates for.

I had already updated all the chipset drivers, as well as everything connected to the motherboard.

Also, I've just got another BSOD, this time with stop code 0x116. It also mentioned the file atikmdag.sys at an address of some sort. These all seem to be stemming from an ATI problem, shall I just buy an nVidia graphics card?

That's up to you to decide. Yes, the errors are from the video but that does not mean the card is damaged or defective. It could be something else in the system not working well for whatever reason, along with it etc...Could be a bios setting still.

Look into a bios update from the manufacturer of the mainboard. If there's one available that's newer than what you have now, good chance it will fix it.

I've tried an old nVidia GeForce 8600 GT and I've had no problems. However, I'd like to revert back to the ATI if possible, as the resoultion and settings the nVidia offers hurts the hell out of my eyes. I've tried changing it too.

Would using Windows 7 32-bit instead of 64-bit solve the problem?

I had similiar problem with Windows 7 Pro x86 (32-bit), ASUS P5B SE and Asus Radeon EAH4350 (no problem with Nvidia 9800GT) - random BSODs, no problem with Windows XP. Tried with many version of drivers for Radeon 4350, no results... Solved with latest BIOS update for ASUS P5B SE.

I have recently run into this exact same issue.

Intel E6600 (stock 2.4GHz)
Win7 Home Prem 64bit
4GB DDR2-800 OCZ
Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3P
X-Fi sound card

For me, it all started when I installed this evga nvidia GTX260 1792MB.

Previously had a 512MB 9800GT and NEVER ran into this until the new(er) card.

The funny thing is this happens when the system is primarily idle. Whenever the card is not idle (like in games), it NEVER crashes. I have tried various drivers (beta and final) from nvidia 296.xx to most recent 306.97.

Seems this is still an ongoing issue with Win7 that is OS related after doing some searches online. Apparently it has something to do with FenceID checks... i am a tech (builds and repairs) but not a programmer... so the FenceID stuff is a bit beyond my scope of knowledge.

Edit 12 Dec 2012: After plenty of digging and checking around, it seems this is a combination of factors.
1) It never happened with XP because XP does not use WDDM, therefore never accessed that part of the video card.
2) In Win7/8, WDDM is talking to the video card, but because the video card is starting to go bad, it is giving the 0x119 BSOD.

I even recently installed a SSD and did a clean install of Win7 to it and the problem continues.

So typically this issue is a bad video card. Sadly I do not have the money to replace it right now (to get the same performance, I would need to spend around $150 on newegg).
