Hi,

A few weeks ago, my SATA ports on the motherboard went bad. I bought a PCIe SATA card, hooked the harddrive to it, and recovered to dissimilar hardware and the computer worked fine. That's until I reboot (I leave it on all time, so I only reboot once every few weeks).

Now I reboot and get BSOD 0x7B. I guess it's related to the SATA card with uses JMicron drivers. I cannot boot, not even in safe mode, so no way to run the SF diagnostic tools.

I may be able to access files on the harddrive booting with Hirens or other. To start with, where and how should I upload the minidumps?

TIA

I ran Startup Repair, it did a system restore by itself, it took about 15 mins, after reboot, it was able to boot up to the login screen. I didn't log into windows, I just restarted from that screen, and I thought it was solved as I repeated the process 3 times, without login into windows.

Next, I rebooted and now I logged into windows. I saw it was installing a driver, but couldn't check which one. I restarted once again, and got back to the same BSOD.

Juan,
Go to another Win 7 64bit system and:
CREATE A SYSTEM REPAIR DISC

START | type System Repair | Enter key | Create Disc button

Boot from that disc.

Navigate to a command prompt.

using good old copy commands, copy any data dear to your heart to a USB drive or USB stick.

Here's how to get to a command prompt using the disc.
GO TO A COMMAND PROMPT USING A SYSTEM REPAIR DISC

1) Insert System Repair Disc into optical reader.
2) Shutdown computer.
3) Boot up computer from the System Repair Disc
4) A SYSTEM RECOVERY OPTIONS dialog appears.
5) NEXT button
6) select Use recovery tools that can help fix problems starting Windows
7) NEXT | Choose Command Prompt

Run desired commands and type EXIT when finished.
Remove the System Repair Disc.
Shutdown computer.
Power on computer.

NOTE:
If your computer doesn’t boot from the optical drive, then
Immediately after pushing your Power ON button,
start tapping the F2 key to get to the BIOS to change the boot order

On some computers, Immediately after pushing the Power ON button,
start tapping the F12 key and choose CD/DVD to change the boot order
only for this time.

You will need to use the DIR command to list files in a directory.
You will need to use the COPY command to copy files.
You will need to use the CD command to change drives and directory
CD /d:E:\Pics would change to the Pics directory on the E drive (that is ONLY an example)

Simply try:
C:
DIR
then
D:
DIR
then
E:
Dir

to get a starting idea.

I have a full backup of my computer. But I want to fix this as it is happening every time I reboot it. I can always restore to dissimilar hardware but need to fix this as a restore takes hours.

Karl,

Yes I have backup, using EaseUs ToDo Backup. Actually, last night I had to recover fully from it as I needed the PC for use today.

I know there's a big chance this will happen again at next boot, unless I find the reason why this is happening.

What I do to make it work is: I run a recover to dissimilar hardware, at the end of this, it asks me for the drivers of the JMicron SATA card (where my C drive is hooked to). After that, I'm able to boot and work with my computer, until next boot. The first time I boot after the recovery, I see the system connects to Windows Updates and downloads a series of drivers, this time I took a picture and am able to mention them: Dell QuietKey Keyboard, Serial ATA Controller, AMD Athlon X2 Processor, Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller, RAID Controller, ATA Channel 0, ATA Channel 1, USB Optical Mouse.

Today I turned off the network when I saw this, to prevent the updates, maybe it was too late as all got installed except the RAID Controller (it didn't have enough time to download and update it, I guess). I downloaded and installed the latest drivers for this SATA/RAID card, but have not rebooted. I also disabled Windows Updates, to prevent the PC from rebooting after applying updates. I'll do a full backup, and will reboot, but I have to make sure I won't need the PC, so allow me a few days to get back.

Now that the PC is "working", I'll get all the system specs, etc to be able to post them here next time.

Thanks, I will be back.
