Hello SF,

my notebook produces BSOD with 0x9F on random occasion, sometimes during gaming (mainly SWTOR) and sometimes during regular desktop work (surfing, word, etc.).

I tried to look into the minidumps with the debugging tools from MS.
Based on the different dumps (about 28) i swapped out the drivers for the most recent ones (Mainboard, Graphics, USB).

The most recent dumps are about the pci.sys, with might be responsible for everything.
I've checked the RAM and GPU-RAM (checked with OCCT).

Mainboard ram ended without errors, gpu ram test ended with about 1500 errors.
Since i don't have any reference for the error number, i don't know if the number is ok or not.

Based on the instructions, i packed the zip file with the output from the tool and the perfmon html file, the perfmon file is in german.

I included the system specs in my profile. I

Thanks in advance for the help

-Malikai

2 "tricks" with stopped up IRP's (STOP 0x9F with the first parameter of 3)
- look at the Fault Bucket ID, it may list another driver that's actually responsible
- look at the WER section of MSINFO32 - it may show another driver that could be responsible

In this case the offending driver blamed is ACPI.sys
Unfortunately, that doesn't help us much (it's a Microsoft driver)

Please stop running Driver Verifier and run it using these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings
The purpose of Driver Verifier is to cause BSOD's, so we'll need you to upload the memory dumps that occur after setting up Driver Verifier according to my instructions.

Further info on BSOD error messages available at: http://www.carrona.org/bsodindx.html

The following info is just FYI, I've already addressed the issues that I saw in the above paragraphs

It appears that your NVIDIA drivers are corrupted. Use the following method to re-install the drivers.

First, disable Verifier (Thanks John for reminding me) -> Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right click Command Prompt -> Type the following command followed by Enter:
verifier /reset
-> Restart your computer

  1. Download the latest drivers for your display card(s)
  2. Click Start Menu
  3. Click Control Panel
  4. Click Uninstall a program
  5. For NVIDIA:
    • Uninstall the NVIDIA Graphics Driver (this should uninstall all NVIDIA software and drivers)
    • Restart your computer
    • Make sure NVIDIA 3D Vision Driver, NVIDIA 3D Vision Video Player, NVIDIA HD Audio Driver, and NVIDIA PhysX System Software are not still listed under Uninstall a program through Control Panel
    • If any remain of the above, uninstall one at a time
    • If asked to restart after uninstalling any of the above, do so, and continue uninstalling any remaining NVIDIA items until all are removed
  6. Restart your computer after uninstalling drivers for all display cards
  7. Install the latest driver for the display cards once Windows starts

Please stop running Driver Verifier.

Since we get the same results, this is most likely a hardware problem - with Windows being the next most likely problem.

Hardware problems include:
- broken hardware
- overclocking
- compatibility issues
- low-level driver problems
- malware

Remove the Android USB device and it's software temporarily. Feel free to reinstall it once the system is stable again.

If using VIRTU, please uninstall it (I saw problems with it on several systems about a month ago).

Please run the free hardware diagnostics here: http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html
Post back with the results of each test and we'll see where we go from there.

Hi Mike, Hi John

i disabled the the verifier and uninstalled the display drivers completely and reinstalled them.
I removed the android usb drivers completely.

I will run the memtest this evening to check the memory, i already ran the test for 2 passes without errors.

The furmark test ran for about 45 min with the gpu temp ending at about 75°C, i will recheck this test during the easter weekend.

I will post the results after easter.

Thanks to both of you for your help!!

Happy easter,
Malikai

Latest info on this issue

Hi Mike, Hi John

i hope both of you enjoyed the easter weekend.

All the tests of the memory (both system and GPU) ended up without any errors.
And after having another bsod with 0x9F, i ran a complete reinstall of windows.

For now i'm free of bsods.

Thank you both for your help.
