BSOD 116 Recently started happening for unknown reason Dump and DM Log

There is software which will read voltages, but they are not reliable, in my opinion. Bios is usually the best place to get them, but that is only at idle. But Dell locks down their BIOS pretty tight.

32 GB of ram will take you 40 hours or so to run with the most reliable test we have. If you want to try it, here are good instructions. It has to be run for 8 consecutive passes. I have nothing yet that seems to indicate ram problems.

Please Run Memtest86+
picture.php

   Information
Please download from this site only http://www.memtest.org/ in the middle of the page are the Download links, you can download the ISO.zip or the Auto USB Flash Drive installer.zip

Extract the Zip file. If you chose the ISO image, burn it to a CD using Windows Disk Image Burner or any Image burner you may have. If you downloaded the Auto USB installer, extract it, insert your USB 2.0 Flash Drive and take note of the drive letter. Run the installer, select the Flash Drive Letter, check the format box and press next. It will install memtest86+ to a flash drive. You can use either V4.20 or V5.01. Boot from your selected media. If you use V5.01 it will tell you to press certain buttons at the start, please press no buttons. The test will begin on it's own and continue to run until you stop it. It needs to run for 8 complete passes or until you receive an error. If you receive an error, stop the test. Even 1 error is a fail. Each pass tests a different part of the ram and each of the 10 tests in each pass tests something different. It takes a minimum of 8 passes to completely test the ram, more passes are better. It is quite a long test and will take several hours depending on how much ram you have. Due to the time length it is best to run overnight. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask

I have used Memtest before a couple of times as per instructions given by helpful members of this community but I will have to wait for at least a week or so to do it as I work from home and cannot be without my PC for 40+ hours straight during a busy time for me at the moment.

The Memory isn't that old either, it was replaced by Dell no more than a year or so ago but I will continue testing after a fresh Graphics driver install and see if it happens again, if so I will post in this thread to update it.

Thanks for your help essenbe, I appreciate it.

This is strange, I loaded up Skyrim again to test and I was seated on a chair at a table outside overlooking the water, it wasn't a very graphically intensive scene and yet my Graphics card was sitting around 74c temp which is normal but the GPU Load was very high around 97% on both GPU 0 and GPU 1 before both monitors go black and go into an unrecoverable hibernating state.

I had to again manually hold the power button down to turn the PC off then wait and power it back up, the first time it did not produce a dump file but the second time it did, I have uploaded it to the same OneDrive location as the others.

https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=EAC38D7FA69DB547&id=EAC38D7FA69DB547!201

Both times just before the black screen I saw the GPU load was around 97% and the temps around 74-75 via Nvidia Inspector.

I will run a FurMark test to see if it's my graphics card failing.

Edit: Ran FurMark for 45 mins with no problems at all, GPU 0 ran at 98c GPU 1 ran at 96c, not artifacts or tearing, some very slight stutter every now and then from 15mins on but barely noticeable.

Everything is the same as before. We need to try a few different things to see if we can make it work or at least tell us what is wrong.

Code:
[COLOR=red]VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (116)[/COLOR]
Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed.
Arguments:
Arg1: fffffa806f1c0010, Optional pointer to internal TDR recovery context (TDR_RECOVERY_CONTEXT).
Arg2: fffff880065e12dc, The pointer into responsible device driver module (e.g. owner tag).
Arg3: ffffffffc000009a, Optional error code (NTSTATUS) of the last failed operation.
Arg4: 0000000000000004, Optional internal context dependent data.

If you would, please install a different version of your WHQL driver using the same process, http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/327414-nvidia-drivers-avoid-problems.html then I would like you to change to 1 monitor and play the game and see if you notice a difference.

Do you have another pcie X16 slot on the board? Can you borrow or preferably swap cards with a friend?

Do you have access to a Multi Meter so you can check the voltages of the PSU?

I can switch monitors and install different WHQL Drivers when I get back home but I do not have access to another board or have another slot that I know of (I have never built a PC so not great with opening the side panel other than a few basics and knowing what most things are and where they are). I don't have access to a multi meter either unfortunately.

I am however covered under warranty by Dell, so I can put a call in and get a Tech to come out and check it out, I just really wanted to try and find the cause myself before doing that so I knew what caused it and maybe help someone else with a similar problem but if it becomes too much of a time waster I can make a call.

I have backed everything up that was important ready for a format too if need be but I will try switching graphics drivers when I get home. (I actually did have the previous version of drivers when this started happening, I upgraded myself to the latest to see if it would help fix the problem)

No problem. With Graphics cards it is usually the Drivers, the card, the Motherboard or the power supply. there is always something else that can affect it, but those are the majority of the cases. Given your circumstances, I would probably call Dell too. It can be time consuming to check everything out, which is why I was asking about a multi meter to check the voltages, maybe switching cards with a friend or trying a new PCIe slot. No reason to take a chance of voiding the Warranty. Just let Dell worry about it. But, if it is only happening with one game, it could very well be the game. You would be surprised at how many poorly coded games there are.

Ok, well thank you very much for your help and your time, I really appreciate it mate, I will make a call to Dell and get someone out to look into it further and I will leave this thread open so when I do find the cause I can update for others to see, if we can't find it and the parts just get replaced I will close the thread and post that information too.

Thanks again essenbe and Golden.

Thanks for the offer essenbe, I have a Dell tech coming out within 2 days to replace the graphics card and motherboard, it appears that after speaking to the phone operator that the easiest option for them is to just replace both with something similar or refurbished parts and see if that fixes it.

I will make sure I at least get equal or better parts and message back here once it's either fixed or the problem still persists so we can at least know it was one of them or rule them both out as the cause. :)
