Solved Bsod 116

Hi, I have a Dell XPS 8500, OEM Windows 7 64-bit installed, nvidia geforce GT640.
this few days, my system keep crashing and I keep having blank screens.
now when i start my PC it kept showing blank screen. I m not able to install DM log collector because my system keep crashing after a few minutes.
however, i managed to save a copy of problem signature, pl see below:

A stop 0x116 is a display/graphics related issue. As you cannot boot to the computer in normal mode, there is a big chance that the GPU is failing itself. But before deciding anything in this line, think of the display driver. The installed one is an old one, which can be teh root of the issue.

Update the display driver to the latest WHQL. http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/602-latest-nvidia-forceware-video-drivers-windows-7-a.html

Now see if you can boot to normal mode. If not, let us know. We will try to check the graphics card in this limited situation.

Hi Arc,

I managed to boot in Normal Mode but before I can open my browser, my PC crashes & it shows blank screen again. I just remembered that I did a graphics card driver update last week through windows update, i suspect this may be the cause of BSOD 116?

should I do a system restore back to previous version (under safe mode)?

Your graphics card driver is not up-to-date, mate.

Anyway, can you apply any other graphics card there, at least as a test? Or if you have the onboard grapgics option, can you apply it?

I think i have intel graphic card onboard, how do u activate the onboard graphics option? can I uninstall & reinstall Nvidia driver in safe mode?

Remove the nvidia graphics card. Apply the display cable (VGA/DVI/HDMI) to the motherboard's port. Update the HD graphics driver from Intel Download center. All done.

I m a newbie so i m a bit confused about your last message, do u mean that the nvidia graphics card driver will be updated if I update the intel integrated video card driver? does the intel download center update nvidia graphics card driver? if u dun mind, can u show me all the installation steps. thks.

- attach monitor cable to motherboard port
- login to windows
- update intel video card driver from link Arc gave
