Hi all,
I have the blue screen that tells me there is an error and then the system crashes.

I have recently bought and had a shop install a brand new Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H mother board and Intel i5 processor. It did have a AMD graphic card but the man at the shop took it out? I am not entirely clear why, he just said the onboard graphic was ok so it wasn’t needed? It also has a brand new 750W power supply. The machine has 8G memory, (2 x 4G) which indecently is the only thing I have not replaced, as the RAM is two years old

Window Home 7 is installed on a Seagate 2TB hard drive. (which is about a year old)

The machine boots up and I managed to set my WiFi router up and then it crashes with the blue screen. I reboot again and get the windows pop-up box saying it has recovered. Occationally when I restart after a crash it takes me to the instal windows set up screen.

I looked in the bios and it looks fine to and untrained eye like mine. For example the processor was running cool at 36 degrees. I compared the bios setting to the bios manual and its seems to be set to the manufactures default settings. I dont really know about conflicts and hardware. But when I bought the motherboard and processor I did check Gigabytes web-site to make sure they were compatible.

I am a bit confused as to why after the crash and I reboot Windows is asking to install. if I try to install on Disk 0 Partition3 it tells me I cant ? Probably because Disk 0 Partition 1 has the system already on it?

I also occasionally get a video display that look crazy before the crash, does this indicate something wrong with the graphics? I notices the Intel has an option to set the graphics but again it crashed before I could do anything?
I did try to download and install the SF Diagnostic tool but I got the blue screen of death again before i could run it :( I am sorry I dont think I can post an error report for you to help me :(

Thank you in advance

is there any way you can somehow get into safe mode and get a look at and copy the event viewer and upload it here to see what it says about the blue screen errors?

I just noticed at the bottom about the part where you have issues with the graphics. It sounds as if there could be something amiss with the on-board graphics. Also, if you can get into safe mode somehow; go to a elevated command prompt and do a sfc /scannnow or scanow (forget how its spelled exactly) to scan for errors in the system.

Yes, I agree, it definately an onboard graphic issue. I tried to boot it again tis morning and it does not even get past the windows loading screen before the monitor does its flickering and flashing followed by the bSOD. I am wondering why the fellow at the shop removed the Radeon Graphic Card that was already installed? Should I put it back ? I am totally clueless on how to proceed or fix the problem.

 Still getting blue screen after the video screens throws a wobbly .... changed monior ..checked and updated drivers, within Windows 7 as cant check the internet for drivers as BSOD comes even when I boot in safe mode with networking. Tested the memory all is good. searched the net for a solution and I hit a blank wall and I have no idea how to proceed apart from formatting the drive and starting again. however doubt that formatting will help much as Im almost sure its something to do with the onboard graphics.

Here is the lastest update bit the problem still persists.
I deleted the partions and re-installed windows followed by the gigabyte drivers.
When completing the Windows intallation I noticed the VGA screen crashed while I was trying to enter the WEP key to my router. Upon reboot I skipped this step and windows installed successfully.

However, I can load windows fine but as soon as I try to connect to a Network (my internet router) I get the same flickering screen and the blue screen of death.

I have checked all the drivers and Ive rechecked the bios. Nothing seems to be amiss.

Any other ideas please ....

Well, after three days of searching the net and posting in sevral forums this issue is still not solved ....

I put back in the Radeon card and tried to connect to the internet ....as soon as I put in my network router key it crashed again ....

All things being equal I am about to chuck the damn thing out of the window !!

Just to update I did some research around the BSOD error code.
I found this thread and it looks like a simular problem Maybe Windows does not reconise the hardware changes.

Just to let you all know this issue is now resolved.

I think what was happening was two fold.
A) I could not get the machine to stop BSODing so I couldent install all the updates Windows required.
B) I took out the RAM one stick at a time and found it would run on 4gig, just long enough to install SP1
C) I put the RAM back in and all is fine now.

Finally, it appears there might have been a RAM issue. Once I could read the BSOD id number I was able to google it !! I did read somewhere that often taking out hardware and putting them back one by one resolves the problem (including the COSM battery)

Thank You everyone and Happy New year !
