Solved BSOD after computer has been off for 12+ hours

Hi there
Iam having the same problem as you mjm64. I changed the MB with an ASUS M5A99x evo R 2.0, my RAM: Corsair 2x2 Gb 1333Mhz and Amd Phenom II X4 840 3,2Ghz. Iam really desprate with this problem. The memtest is showing many errors when the PC is turned on after hours of being off. But when I shut it down and run memtest again no errors. Iam thinking changing that two modules with a one Kingston 4gb 1600Mhz stick. Hope it will work. I wanted to ask if your system is now stable after changing RAM. Maybe Im just unlucky with my sticks

As soon as I changed memory the computer has not had any problems since. It has been perfectly stable and works like a charm.

I have sent the defective memory back to OCZ and they replaced it without issue and the replaced memory I got back also works without issue. As I bought a replacement motherboard/cpu as i thought it was a defective cpu, I had almost a complete computer left over. That has been built up and that works now as a full time NAS box.

As a side note, I don't trust anything Corsair that has to do with memory. I have had 3 of their flash drives turn bad on me. I bought one of their 16gb USB3 flash drives and it has been returned back to them twice now as it failed. The cost of getting it fixed has exceeded the cost of the actual drive, and not that it has failied a third time, it has been thrown in the garbage. NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY THEIR CRAP!

If you are replacing the two dimm's with a single, you will loose performance as motherboards work better with 2 dimms installed. Memory is pretty cheep now, and I'd look to get a pair. Here in Canada, it costs $30 for 2x2gb or $40 for 2x4gb. I'd forgo a few coffee's and get the larger memory.

Thanx for your answer
Its been almost 2 year since the cold boot problem first appeared. It makes me desprate everytime I came with some new solution. But you really encourage me of buying new pair of sticks. I will also check the MB's memory support list . But I'm pretty decided to buy some Kingston sticks. They are known for their good stability. Mostly I have found a cold boot problem when there was a corsair or gskill memory in the rig. So thank you very much once again :)
