Dear Forum Members,

My Asus K70IC notebook running 64-bit Win7 failed to boot 4 days ago. It was a very hot day and the soldering of a BGA IC set loose. The problem was fixed by reballing. The notebook is now working perfect but previous Windows 7 install cannot boot any more. I get BSOD and error 0x0000007B at the beginning of boot process.

I tried system repair tools (no errors), chkdsk /f (no errors), fixing MBR, rebuiling BCD (cannot find installation) but nothing helped.

Nothing had been changed in the config before switching on again the working notebook except one thing: after realizing the notebook does not boot I removed the HDD and verified it in another Win7 notebook to make sure HDD is OK. It was OK, but I'm afraid the Win7 on another notebook automatically made changes in the BCD or drive letters. Could it be the main reason?

Please help me preserving the current Win7 installation on my notebook because installed apps store some very essential information for me which cannot be restored after a clean install. Clean install would be disaster for me.

Thank you in advance.

Hi MN896.

A stop 0x7B means INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE; that means the HDD is not getting access for some reason. The probable reasons are a failing HDD, improper seating, inappropriate boot sequence, and sometimes a MBR virus, bootkit.

As the HDD is working good in another computer, then it is in good condition, as it may be assumed. Still take a bootbale HDD test using Seatools for DOS.

In order to be sure about the virus infection, scan the system for possible virus infection with the a bootable antivirus.

Next, boot into the BIOS. make it sure that the HDD is being detected there. Set it as the first boot device.

Also, do you have access to another computer right now? If so, download Partition wizard Bootable CD (the last one in the link). Burn it in a blank CD or in a USB flash stick.

Boot into Partition Wizards GUI following this instructions. When you are on the last screen, take a camera snap of the screen and upload the snap here.

Thank you for detailed answer. After 18 hours of exhaustive troubleshooting I realized that some special BIOS settings referring to SATA were modified which caused HDD was unaccessible. No other problems were found. The BIOS settings were modified in the service as I found out later.

The previous Windows 7 instance works perfectly again. I'm happy.
