BSOD after installing new cpu fan??

i know lol, i think i am coming across as a stupid teenager due to my short, sometimes rude answers, and apparent ignorance whereas i am a final year biochem student in his 20s, who does literally try everything possible and available to solve the problem. i am simply requesting that somebody who is an expert in this bios help me troubleshoot the problem (the manual doesn't actually explain what anything means, it just says what everything is, in very shallow detail). i thank you all for your help and time so far though, i do appreciate it, its just have an exam in a couple of hours and would like to get the cd drive running again so i can run a mem test while i am doing the exam

Instead of spinning your wheels on that, perhaps its easier to try to get MemTest86+ on another USB flash drive and boot from that?

i don't have another usb drive handy, although i really should, as mine is tiny and needs upgrading to a larger faster one. plus there is also the issue that I'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO USE CDs AGAIN haha, so I really really do need this issue solved very soon! i don't want to have to call up a guy to come round to fix it like the grandmas and grandpappys do haha, but at this rate i might need to!

If you reboot the machine, and keep hitting the ESC key as it boots....does the one-time boot menu appear? Does it show a CD/DVD option?

mine doesnt have a esc option as far as im aware, its del to open up the bios, then f8 to bring up boot options. and no, doesnt think any other drive apart from the HDD is plugged in, and doesnt recognise it anywhere in the bios anymore, and have tried resetting to defaults to no avail. i feel i have literally tried everything, as usual.

I would recommend you unplug everything, one at a time, and re-plug them, something is obviously not connected I think. Since you've been in it you can accidently dislodge something although you may think "it can't be that". I've done it before myself.

The manual will show you where in the BIOS to find your drive listing, how to set the SATA ports, ex. IDE or AHCI, and the boot priority settings. Drives will have a separate section to set the priority of the installed drives.

Already unplugged and replugged it all back, to no avail. I have checked the whole bios and nothing can get it to recognize any other drive but the hdd. I just have no clue what has happened and feel I've tried everything now.

Sadly I'd have to buy one, also the drive is not dead because the electronic drive still opens when the electronic button is pressed and also if you put a disc in it actually loads or tries to even though the PC doesn't recognise it. The drive actually spins!

That means nothing, if you attach only a power cable it would open and spin the drive/disk up. Try a different data cable and on a different port. That may be repetitious.

i tried unplugging and replugging everything in again once more and as if by magic the blu ray drive works again, can't believe i didnt plug it in fully twice in a row! shame on me! anyway, thanks for everyone's help testing all my components for damage, i think the blue screens may have come from damaged RAM slots, as after transferring them to the other available slots i have had no problems.

+1 to this. Start memtest before you go to work or too bed and let it run. If there are errors follow the procedure for testing slots and RAM modules.
