Solved BSOD after installing ram in netbook

Hi All,

I have an Acer Aspire One netbook (AOD250 - KAV60) with Intel Atom N280 (1.66Ghz). It has 1GB of ram, and is running Windows 7 starter 32bit.

I recently upgraded my ram to 2GB which is the max allowed according to my instruction manual.

After the ram upgrade, I started getting the BSOD usually when the cpu was under heavy load, after booting from sleep or sometimes just randomly.

I understand that Windows 7 starter only allows up to 2gb of ram so I was just wandering if my 2gb stick
combined with its internal memory is pushing it over the windows starter limit.

The ram has been tested and is good.

Will upgrading my version of windows possibly fix the problem.

You upgraded your RAM to 2 GBs. Have you applied one more 1 GB, or used a 2 GB stick?

If you applied one more 1 GB, make it sure that the additional RAM is essentially identical with the existing one.

If you applied a 2 GB one by replacing the existing one, make it sure that the new RAM is compatible with your system.

You said, the RAM has been tested as good. How it is tested?
Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.
If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

Let us know. Also, the data as per the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions will be good.

I have replaced 1 single stick of 1GB ram with a single stick of 2gb ram as per the manufacturers
recommendation (ddr2 pc2-5300 -667)

I also tested the ram with Memtest86+ and all came up good.

I have since re-installed my old ram and also re-installed windows.

Do you recommend I put the 2gb stick back in to get the BSOD error reports ?? Also, which directory
are they stored in ??

The reason i believe it may be my version of windows is because after doing some research, I've discovered
some reports of only being able to upgrade to 1.5gb (ie cannot upgrade at all) while I have found many other reports
of people successfully upgrading. My manufacturers manual says it feasable to up upgrade up to 2gb max however it does not mention which OS I should be using.

anyone else have a similar experience ??

Hi zuba.

If your laptops runs without BSODs and performs perfectly with 1 GB RAM, no need to upgrade it with 2 GB.

But if you want to do an up-gradation, for whatever reason, and that results into BSODs, you just follow the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions. The SF Diag Tool will collect the necessary info for you. You just need to follow the step 6 properly to upload the files.
