BSOD after installing Windows7 on a new SSD and an old XP-machine

Is asacpi.sys in \windows\system32\drivers?

If so, what is the timestamp?

No such driver!
I got a dual boot.
In the Win7 directory \windows\system32\drivers the are almost no drivers and no asacpi.sys driver in particular.
In the WinXP directory \windows\system32\drivers, the timestamp is 26-02-2006 (16:02)

I just wanted to chime in with a link to the latest asacpi.sys file supplied by Asus for the OP's motherboard. It's dated from 2009.

Go to this page ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS P5K-VM, scroll down to Downloads, select Windows 7 (either 32 or 64 bit, as applicable) and then expand the Utilities tab.

You'll see an ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Win7 32&64-bit which is what the asacpi.sys file is. Download and extract the archive.

Open Device Manager, select Show hidden devices from the View menu, then expand the System tab. You should see an ATK0110 device there which you can directly update from there using the downloaded file.
If you don't see ATK0110 but see an "Unknown Device" instead, try updating this with the downloaded driver by letting Windows search the extracted folder directly.

Please let us know if that sorts out the asacpi.sys issue.

I now found the driver and installed it.
During three hours, i haven't had a BSOD.

I have to maintain radio silence for seven (;)) days.
After that, I will keep you informed.

Problems again !!!

Hi all,

I'm back again.
I thought problems were solved, but w're experiencing BSOD’s again.
Because I had problems updating ‘Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile’, I removed the program, and reinstalled and updated the software again. Now there were no problems updating.

Today we had several BSOD’s. The minidumps are enclosed.
Could someone help me, it’s frustrating. My own computer with Windows 7 shows no problems at all.

Thanks,

I removed Asus PCProbe Utility, and again installed Asus PCProbe Utility.
The memtest showed no problems (see post #3).
Last night I turned the compuper on and left the computer. Still I got two BSOD's.
The minidumps are enclosed.

Should I remove Windows 7 and reinstall ?
Are there other ASUS desktop barebone (V-Series P5G33) users experiencing the same problem ??
Renew the motherboard (or memory)?

Did you already remove 7? I have some suggestions that might help get you up and running.

Hi Writhziden,
I just wanted to start today replacing Windows 7; the answer is 'no, Windows 7 is still running'.
If you got new suggestions, you're more than welcome.
I enclosed the minidumps and the system config according tot CPU-Z.

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
        use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.

I know you already ran Memtest and found no errors, but Memtest sometimes misses memory problems associated with Windows. Please also run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. You may want to run this overnight since it takes a long time to finish.

I removed Daemon Tools.
Ran the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool 3 (!) times, this took me more than 6 hours; no failures. Will start tonight for another 3 runs.
I will keep you informed.

The results :
- 7x Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool : no problems
- 2x 5 times Memtest 86+ : no problems
Several days no BSOD's until the 6th. of January.
The minidump is enclosed.
I will try the suggestions until next Friday the 13th ().

Then I will reinstall Windows 7, now the 32 bit version. If the BSOD keep coming, I have to consider to return to Windows XP.

ASUS BIOS, Intel Chipset E7200 and Windows 7 (!)

Dear all,

I think I got the reason for all my problems, but first an update:
1. Disk Check in Windows 7 : no problems found
2. VIPRE Rescue : no viruses found
3. Full scan of Malwarebytes : : no viruses found
4. Fakerean tool : no problems/viruses
Still there are a lot of BSOD’s.

Then someone suggested me to look AGAIN at the BIOS.
I got the most recent BIOS (version 07.02) but, I found out that this BIOS does NOT support the Core 2Duo, E7200 processor; it supports previous processors but not the 7200 (http://www.asus.nl/Barebone_PC/V_Series_2530L/V3P5G33/#CPUS)
The system (ASUS V3-P5G33 barebone with Core 2Duo E7200 processor) was sold to me and functioned without problems with Windows XP for more than 3 years.
The ASUS V3-P5G33 barebone is made of a P5K-VM/V motherboard. For both motherboards (VM and V), newer BIOS’s are available which support the Core 2Duo E7200 processor (http://usa.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5KVM/). Flashing the BIOS from the ASUS V3-P5G33 barebone, however, is not permitted. When I tried to update the BIOS, I get the message that the model of the BIOS image does not match the BIOS ROM currently present.
The ASUS helpdesk comfirms my findings mentioned above. But asking for a solution, or the possibility to flash the BIOS with the newer version, it keeps shamefacedly quiet; ASUS does not answer.

I think the only way to keep the computer running is to reinstall Windows XP.
I tried to install Windows XP on a new SSD, and it is running now for 48 hours without problems.
Does someone have additional ideas to resolve the problem with the Windows 7/ASUS V3-P5G33 barebone/Core 2Duo E7200 processor problem ?
