Solved BSOD after network sharing via Virtual Miniport Adapter, 0x0000009f

Hi everyone!

I have encountered the following problem with internet sharing: after using virtual miniport adapter to share my internet connection, when I want to shut down the pc, it won't. Just a BSOD.

When the connection is not shared, it works fine, no BSOD. But I need to share my connection to my girlfriends tablet.

I am connected to a free hotspot via a TP-Link TL-Wn7200ND ver 1.0 adapter and I have shared this connection using the Microsoft virtual miniport adapter. Everything works fine, till the moment I try to shut down the laptop. The system tries to shut down, but after 6 or 7 minutes it restars itself and get the message that an error occurred.

Ok. First I have updated the driver using TL-WN7200ND_V1_130906 but at the end get an error message: 802.11n wlan not installed driver not found. so, now I will update to this:
TL-WN7200ND_100513. Is this ok? When I first installed the adapter got the same message. 802.11n wlan not installed, because driver not found.

If you cannot found the appropriate driver, better you get another adapter.

The adapter is old. TP Link never develops their drivers, they collect it from others.
The driver to your device was originally developed by Ralink. Over this time Ralink got sold to MediaTek. So it is all possible that an appropriate update to that device will not be found.

let me understand correctly: is it possible that bsod is caused by tp link driver? Microsoft has a hofix for BUG CHECK STRINGRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE for win7. what about that?

after installing the tp link driver with the mentioned error and tne above mentioned microsoft fix, I started a hosted network. the bsod at shutdown came up again. in attachment is the minidump file. The bsod happends only when I start a hosted network. the first 4 lines of the minidump were highlighted. It is getting me headaches.
so, what now?

sorry. my bad. I have had run the sf debug tool. Results in attachments.
As far as I can see from the minidump files, it tis a change in parameters: in the first one: PARAMETER 3:0x84e804c0
PARAMETER 4:0x82d72b24 and on the second one, that occurred yesterday : Parameter 3: 0x84e7fd48
Parameter 4 : 0x82d40b24. The rest is the same.

The with such old WiFi driver, the BSOD will continue to occur.

If you cannot get any update to your driver, get a new network adapter.

No microsoft fixit or anything can do any good in this situation. The logic is simple ... the driver is too old to work.

Till you get a new adapter, disable USB selective suspend.

thanks. so, it is necessary to update drivers for the tp link adapter to work properly. till then, I did what you have suggested, put usb selective suspend on disable. will see how it works.

Although, I have found, with the use of driveridentifier 4.2.7 that one of these drivers should match my case:

Both are the same and same old.

First one says: Version 3.1.3.0, 2010-05-26

Second one says: Version 3.1.3.0, 2010-05-26

So none of them will serve your issue. Because it is that one that you already have. See post #10 .....

Ok. Got what you are saying. At first I just had a look on the version and the release date of the update, on the page linked. But after unpacking it, the same old version. I thought I give it a try with this one: TP-LINK 150Mbps Wireless Lite N Adapter #4 Driver Download for VISTA,WIN7,WIN8/32bits - LENOVO 20023 (Lenovo/Lenovo G550- SKU:Lenovo) but after download and pointing the mouse to the file, it says file version 3.2.0.1 It seems that all of the drivers found on that site, it is out of date for me. I have had disabled the USB ports as you mentioned. I'll give it a try in this way. Hope it works till I get a new adapter.

Sharing and receiving speed depends on ISP, isn't it?

If you want to choose the brand of an adapter, choose one for which the driver updates will be regularly available. Qualicomm Atheros may be a good choice.

today at first hosted network, at shutdown no bsod, usb ports disabled. and now, at second try, another bsod...

Though no crash dump is there, but I think the BSODs will continue to occur with such an old network driver.

sorry. that's may bad. now it seems that I have encountered another problem. i have updated the driver for the adapter, from Ralink, version 3.1.6.0 from 2010.11.15
had no problems till now. I wanted to try if with this new driver gives ne bsod, but now when I want to start the hosted network, I get an error message: The hosted network couldn't be started. A device attached to the system is not functioning. In device manager it shows that everything is working well....so what now?

As far as the BSODs are concerned, I can help you to figure things out. But when it comes networking, I am not the right person to assist you.

You may ask about it in Network & Sharing. If needed, give a reference to this thread.

Ok.
For the moment it seems that everything it's ok. I have found out that I have to turn on my in-built adapter also for the hosted network to work. I did so and with the new, above mentioned, driver update I have had no problems. I even put USB selective suspend on enabled mode and it is still everything ok. Hosted network works properly and no BSOD at shutdown. Tested it few times this week, worked ok.

If there is no objection, I would like to leave this thread open for one or two weeks and if everything is working ok, I will then mark it as solved.
