BSOD after reformat--System Service Exception ntoskrnl.exe

Hello,

I have a desktop running Windows 7 64 bit which I have had many problems with BSOD in the past. I recently reformatted my computer to try to help with some of these issues, and almost immediately after reformatting I got another BSOD. Also, my computer has been running EXTREMELY slowly considering its high specs and the fact that there is very little installed on the computer yet.

The error was a System Service Exception, blamed on ntoskrnl.exe (the same file causing most of my BSOD before the reformat as well). I have attached the SF Diagnostic printout as requested as well.

In the past, I had been running on 2 sticks of 4 GB each RAM. About 6 months ago after a string of BSOD I removed one of the sticks which I thought may be problematic, but still have been getting BSOD on the stick which appeared OK on memtest. I have tried running on each individual RAM stick in each of my 4 motherboard slots, and it does not seem to make a difference in my BSOD, so I am not convinced it is my RAM still.

I am really not sure what to try anymore. I have posted on forums before about my problems but have never had any conclusive fix for my frequent BSOD (at least once a week, sometimes much more). I am not sure if there is a problem with my software or with the fact that I am running windows 7 64 bit (most of my friends use 32 bit instead) or my hardware (most of the hardware tests in the past have not shown any problems).

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

   Note
Let it run over night If it fails Test every memory stick on every SLOT on the motherboard.

Thank you for the prompt reply. I began to try to install some of the updates you suggested and my computer became nearly unusable because of so many BSOD during the downloads and installations (4 crashes in an hour). Three of the four crashes looked identical to the first (posted above). I was going to post the logs here, but I ended up reformatting again and using 32 bit Win 7 this time instead. I doubt it will make a difference, but I figured it was worth a try.

Regardless, I ran Memtest last night after reformatting again and had no errors after 7 passes, which ran over 7 hours.

I am going to be out of town for the next few days, but I will post back during next week with updates if I continue having problems when I return. This morning it has not crashed, although it has only been about 3 hours so far.

If you have 4GB I'd recommend x64-bit .

   Note
If you want to go back to x64-bit from x86(32)-bit you would have to do a clean install

First off, thank you for the help so far.

Yes, I've been running 64 bit for years since I heard it was ideal for my setup, but I am going to wait to switch back since I have not had any BSOD yet after switching to 32 bit. I know it may not be related, but I don't want to jinx anything.

I HAVE started to have another problem though which I have suffered with for over a year before--sometimes when I wake my computer from sleep it will not have any sound until a restart. I've never figured out why this is, and it only happens about 25% of the time when I wake from sleep, but it is annoying.

I did attach another SF Diagnostic printout incase there is anything obvious still missing.

Yes, I think that is because I had not had any recent BSOD since the reformat, just the problem with the sound not coming on when waking the computer up from sleep.

I DID get another BSOD tonight, so I reattached the readout to see if you have any suggestions now about why I am still getting them.

Also, if it is helpful this last BSOD was today while running only antivirus scans and a browser.

Latest crash I see it was caused by MalwareBytes.

Run a SFC /scannow

Open up an elevated command prompt by clicking on the :orb: button type CMD inside Search programs and files . Right-click on CMD under neath Programs (1) choose Run as administrator. On the User Access Control Window click on the Yes button.

Command Prompt should open up to this path C:\Windows\System32>_

Type this command

SFC /SCANNOW
Press <ENTER>

if you get any corrupted files located run this command 2 more times with Restarts after each scan.

Once you're done with that run chkdsk

Open up an elevated command prompt by clicking on the :orb: button type CMD inside Search programs and files . Right-click on CMD under neath Programs (1) choose Run as administrator. On the User Access Control Window click on the Yes button.

Command Prompt should open up to this path C:\Windows\System32>_

Chkdsk /f /r
Press <ENTER> it will tell you to schedule a scan on your next restart. Press the Y key and press <ENTER> then manually restart the PC.

   Note
It will take a while to complete
