Hi Guys,

Im having trouble with BSOD related to ntskrnlmp.exe, and cssrss.exe according the windbgx. However i cannot find the source driver, can anyone give me a hand? Attached is the dump long and SF grabber files, the dump log was outputted from a BSOD related to driver verifier. Ive updated all my drivers as far as i can tell so any help you can give me is greatly appreciated. I have also done malware scans via malware bytes.

Cheers!

Hi felicequach.

The Verifier Enabled BSOD says it is somehow related to networks.

So you should plan to update your network adapter drivers.

Scan the system for possible virus infection with the following programs, for a safety reason.

Let us know the results.

It is a wide bugcheck; but we should concentrate on display, as it is somehow the display failure.

Use AMD Catalyst Un-install Utility to uninstall the display driver. Then install the AMD display driver 13.4 WHQL only.

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.

One thing I need to say, that is it a dual display GPU. Two display adapters .... Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 and AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series; both are controlled by the same driver, atikmpag.sys. Sometimes those hardware are fail prone by their own virtue. But we should troubleshoot it at first.

Hi Arc,

Thanks for the fast replies, i performed 15 minutes of the FUbar with a maximum temperature of 72 degrees, interestingly, the gpu shows zero load throughout which is strange, looking at GPU-z so does the integrated gpu so im not sure whats going on there. Attached is a speccy log as well, the computer has been on all day. PSU calculator was 260w, and i have a HX850 corsair psu. I installed the AMD driver, and a intel haswell driver as well that my bios was telling me to instal.

Thanks again for the help!

No spceey screenshot?

And, you need to disable intel HD graphics and run FUbar one more time in that case.

Hi Arc,

Just a heads up, i totalled my OS using the AMD uninstall utility which (according to a few quick google searches) has massive compatability issues with windows 8/8.1. So im currently reinstalling windows from scratch again, however i imagine i am going to have the same blue screen issues as ive done this a couple of times and still received the same issues. Will report back!

Thanks
Felice

Your crash dumps are not showing any finite probable cause.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.
If memtest finds no issue, enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any. Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

In that situation, you will need to uninstall Avast.

As you wish Windows 8, Windows Defender is supposed to be a real good protection there. Add MalwareBytes Anti Malware there, it will be an excellent protection.

This seems to be affecting a number of programs, is there any chance the operating system drivers themselves are faulty?

Sorry to butt in Archie, a few obsevations (i have not run your dumps just scanned the thread)

So many bluescreens on a vanilla install is never a good sign, this would make me consider two possibilities
1. there is faulty hardware causing the machine to throw
2. serious incompatabilities causing problems

if this were my machine i would either
run hardware tests on all components to test them (you have already done some) and then even possibly run machine with minimal hardware ie no gfx just onboard, 1 HDD if you are using more, 1 ram stick etc
or
install win 7 (which will run fine for 90 days without activation or longer if needed) and run some tests to see if stable?

this may give you a better idea of the root cause of your issues so can you can focus your actions slightly, if machine runs good on 7 then you may have driver/software based issues with 8.1 which wouldnt be suprising given the newness of it all. If 7 does work may give developers a chance to catch up/bug fix 8.1 issues

Anyway thats my tuppence worth i`ll leave you in archies more than capable hands

All the best :)

This is a win 8 driver that we havent seen before, i think arc was asking if you knew anything about, ie it was related to a piece of software you installed or something but now we know it belongs to win 8 and is a critical system driver/service
Hes started a thread running on it now to see who knows what about it
