BSOD after sleep help needed

[zzzing]

I recently installed Win 7 Professional X64 on a 64gb SSD, very happy with the boot up speed, but now getting frequent BSOD after sleep.

System is a core 2 duo E8500, gigabyte mb (EP45-UD3P) with 4 gb of OCZ pc8500 ram in dual channel mode, ATI Radeon HD 5450, 500w Earthwatts P/S, Zalman N64 SSD and a couple of other hard drives.

I have attached the requested diag info, looking for more of a clue than the ntoskrnl.exe+80640 bsod CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION message will give me.

I couldn't find anything out of place in the driver dump, you actually seem to have done a good job with getting recent drivers. So back to my first question. Have you updated the firmware on the ssd?

As far as I know, the ssd firmware is the latest, I have checked the Zalman site and I have not seen anything new. The SSD is a fairly new product for Zalman, sandforce controller 1222 controller I believe.

Please run Driver Verifier...

Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like. From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

If that doesn't work, post back and we'll have to see about fixing the registry entry off-line:

A footnote to dean's suggestion which you should follow.
I noted a lot of bios updates for your motherboard, and a couple of them dealt with power management, that may also be worth looking at.

As for the bios updates, I did update right before installing the ssd to bios F10, suppposedly better memory management, had nothing but problems, so I went back to bios F6. The problems I had were memory related, could not run memtest without instant errors, failed Prime95, failed intel burn test. Since I went back to F6 bios, I can now pass all of those tests (no overclocking on my system).

Same Problem

Hi, wondered if anyone has made any progress on this problem. I am having the exact same problem. The dump data is a little different; but it is a bsod during wake-up from sleep for windows 7 pro 64 bit with an SSD. My suspicion is that it is a driver problem but don't know how to dig deeper. For myself, I have narrowed the issue down to my ssd sandforce controller ( I have the Zalman branded N64). There is a known issue with some motherboards and the sandforce 12xx ssd controller firmware or design. I have disabled sleep mode and now turn on and off the pc, not the most desirable solution, but no BSOD's. The latest firmware updates did not solve my issue, nor does using the latest Intel RST drivers, as suggested in some other forums.

My Corsair CSSD-F120GB2-BRKT is also based on a Sandforce Controller; apparently an SF-1200. I was not aware of the "known issue" status of this problem. My motherboard is an ASUS P7F7-E. It would be nice if the manufacturers would get this problem sorted out. Turning the PC on and off is an option; but it means more wasted power during the day when it would be too inconvenient to power cycle the system. it probably means just living with the occasional bsod coming out of sleep; but making sure everything is saved before leaving the system alone. zzzing, thanks for the update.

Yeah, it is unfortunate that the motherboard manufacturers and the drive maker's don't get together and resolve this issue. See this long thread on Anandtech forums
Any info on the AData S599? Firmware upgrades on the way? - AnandTech Forums about the issue (adata is a reseller/repackager of sandforce ssd's, as is the Zalman that I have). Current firmware 3.4.6 which I got is supposed to resolve the issue, but it is not working for many people. My motherboard (Gigabyte EP45-UD3P), has a newer bios, but when I tried it, my SSD would hang on boot and display a SMART error, then boot up normally, so I downgraded the BIOS back to my previous level. I think the onus is on Sandforce to clean up their controller firmware as it is causing problems in many devices, including many laptops of different makes. Check with Corsair and see if they have any updated firmware.

I turns out that I have figured out a work-around of sorts. If I use the power button as the trigger to wake the system from sleep, and if I wait around 20 seconds or so before logging back in, then the system doesn't crash. If, on the other hand, I rush the wakeup sequence or use the enter key, then it's bsod time. So I suspect that it is some timing sequence with the SSD coming back online that is not properly handled by the driver. Since they bring out new SSDs at such a quick pace, they will probably never go back and fix this problem for a device that isn't the latest/greatest. There is no incentive ($) and they they don't take much pride in their craft either; so sad.
