Hello,

This computer was purchased second hand. I purchased windows 7 about 3 months ago. The previous version was not genuine.

- it is 32 bit
- previous OS is unknown
- OEM is purchased at full retail
- age of system is unknown
- OS was installed 3 months ago and the windows/old file has been removed.

your help is greatly appreciated.

All of these were virtually identical and caused by hardware.


Your .dmp file shows a stop error of 0x124 which is a general hardware error .

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint.

Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress.

Thanks for your help. I am attempting to find all drivers and make sure they are updated properly. I have a few questions

1. How do I know if my hardware is "overclocked"?

2. Is there any way to fix a cooling issue without opening up the case? I am not very familiar with the inner workings of the computer and am nervous about opening it up? I am reasonably sure that cooling is the issue. I can hear the fan sounding overworked pretty regularly.

3. This being a hardware issue, if none of the above work out is it just something I will have to deal with, and eventually get a new computer?

Also, I have been to Hewlett Packard website and they are saying that they do not currently do updates for windows 7 for my particular laptop.

You can download a program such as SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer to monitor your temps.

To find out which hardware is failing run these tests
Please run these tests and report back the results
1. Memtest86 - Run for 7-8 passes - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html
2. Prime95 - Run all three tests for 3-4 hours each or until fail - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100352-cpu-stress-test-prime95.html
