Hi, I am running Windows 7 starter on a Asus eee PC netbook. I removed a few virus files last night following instructions from the web (it was essentially just one temp file), then ran AVG as well as Windows security essentials.

Now my computer will boot ok but then after 30 seconds or so I'lll get the BSOD. I have checked the memory and hard drive for errors using windows system tools, but the problem is still happening. Everything works fine in safe mode. My log files are attached, any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot....

Update your Intel SATA controller driver and replace AVG with Microsoft Security Essentials.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I tried updating the driver through Windows device manager and then through Asus website. The device manager originally told me it was already up to date.

I have tried to remove AVG in safe mode but it wont go away. I tried it in normal mode but i get the BSOD before it completes. FYI, I cant seem to run/open windows update either.

Anyway, following that Im still getting the BSOD.

Any other suggestions?

Run the SF Diagnostic Tool again but only click on the minidump button, then follow the instructions in the tutorial to upload the files.

The cause is still the SATA controller driver and it's still too old:

If Asus doesn't have any newer version on their site then try the Intel Driver Update Utility instead.

Hey Tobias,
I have tried that utility a few times through this process, the utility keeps drawing a blank with my recommended updates. It doesnt return an error, just no suggestions (see screenshot). Hence, I assumed they were up to date, but sounds like it just means the utility isnt working for me. Do you have any suggestions for the driver to download? I was a little nervous to download the wrong one.
Thanks, Ian
