Have made no changes in HW in many months. Regardless, uninstalled all components (extra HD, video card, extra memory). Booting now with 1HD, 1stick memory, onboard video. Still getting BSOD just after windows starts. Sometimes remains stable in safe mode for a little while, but not for long. No chance in normal mode.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Here's the BSOD report. Cant get perfmon /report to come up.

I'm currently going through the "how to decode BSOD dump" thread but you guys can probably read this faster than I can figure out how. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

** forgot to mention that I already tried a "las known good configuration" boot, and also a system restore, and neither seem to help.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000040, memory referenced
Arg2: 0000000000000002, IRQL
Arg3: 0000000000000001, bitfield :
    bit 0 : value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
bit 3 : value 0 = not an execute operation, 1 = execute operation (only on chips which support this level of status)
Arg4: fffff80002287cd8, address which referenced memory

I don't think we're looking at a hardware error here, either a conflict with a antivirus / firewall app, or a driver based issue.
I'll go over the driver dump and see if I can find something more specific then post back.

Your chipset drivers are out of date so lets start with that.
nvsmu.sys - nVidia nForce System Management Controller (nVidia nForce chipset driver) - yours is dated 2007 this is pre win 7 there is a 2009 version that is win 7 compliant. (and possibly even something newer than that)
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx

you have the 780a sli chipset, it will be under nforce drivers.

As it seems to be a driver conflict, it will likely continue if we don't figure it out.
I will sadly be too busy for the next couple of hours here to get back to you properly, another member may pick it up. If not I'll get back on the debugger in a few hours and post back then.

I've been scouring the boot dump for a couple days now, and all I can figure out is that Win32k.exe is the culprit, but I can't figure out what that means...how do I fix this?

Anyone else have time to check the boot log dump for me?

Win32k is a Windows core file and is not the culprit. This could be caused by third-party AV (conflicts), faulty/old drivers.

From Maguscreed's post - update your ASACPI.sys driver,
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-
Scroll down to utilites category and find ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Win7 32&64-bit (it's about the 12th item down). Download it and install the driver.

Ah, thanks DeanP. Scanning the results again, I just saw that the speedfan driver is from 2006! Not sure how I missed this before. Saw on another forum that this was a culprit as well...gonna reload first thing in the am and see if that helps.

Thanks again.

I downloaded and installed the newest ASACPI.sys driver, to no avail. Still can only boot into safe mode, and even that takes 2 or 3 tries before it's stable.

Any other help?
