Thanks for this forum and especially thanks for the hoped support!

I upgraded the processor from AMD V120 to AMD N660. Using a backup I made minutes before the upgrade I restored it using Todo Backup with it's Restore to Dissimilar Hardware feature. All came up good and I saw Windows download drivers for both new processors only. I rebooted and after just maybe 3 minutes of idling from seeing the desktop I got the bsod.

I had more from trying to fix all this but that was the most recent bsod, I hope the dump file is included in the attached.

Thanks so much for the help!

I uninstalled KAV and Comodo and installed the MSE Package with firewall.

Acer did not provide any disc with this laptop when purchased new so I created a Repair disc, a Rescue disc, and Recovery disc's immediately after realizing so.

I booted with the Repair disc and ran sfc /scannow 10 times in DOS and see 6 components that couldn't be repaired, please see attached. In looking at replacing them manually from my discs, I see I can only find E:\sources\boot.wim\Windows\System32\wbem\mofd.dll and it's version 1.13.

I only have boot.wim in my discs (no install.wim). Palm.browser must be my PDA software which I could uninstall if I need to.

Thanks again for the support.

I did run sfc using the Rescue disc as well, and still had those same 6 un-repaired.

In reading the warning on the repair-install page, it appears I'm SOL without this installation disc, shy of a format/reinstall.

I knew this lack of a retail OEM Windows 7 installation disc was going to bite me some day. Acer should have provided one!

Would it be possible to run sfc using a borrowed retail OEM Windows 7 installation disc?

Yes, in fact with the System file corruption likely caused by Commode-O your best bet is to start fresh with a perfect reinstall of factory OEM, following the steps here which were assembled based on helping thousands of reinstalls here: Reinstalling Windows 7

Note that you can unlock all versions to reinstall yours using any retail installer's extracted ISO.

Well, I'm thinking perhaps I have an incompatible or faulty processor. Even after deleting the drives and trying to install windows for the first time it crashed. I put my old processor in and all is great again... what a mess!

Could someone perhaps confirm compatibility for me?
Maybe with free access to Acer Support, I can't get them to give me a yeah or nah.

I've an Acer Aspire 5251-1513 with the below motherboard and I'm trying an AMD N660:

Model JE50_DN (Socket S1G4)

I di find a list of supported CPUs. Unfortunately mine's not listed but maybe it's because it hasn't been tested yet.

I see in there that, like the N660, the supported x920 also supports DDR3-1333 as the fastest memory. Per Acer, I can only use DDR3-1066, which is what I have 8GB of, perhaps that's an issue. I do see crucial.com list DDR3-1333 as an upgrade for my beast so maybe I could use it if I need to.

CPU-Upgrade: Acer Aspire 5251-1513 processor support

Thanks for all the support, it's all good now!

The only thing different is the processor, the one I had initially must have been faulty.

No more BSODs or App crashes and, not relating to the processor, I'm finally getting clean SFC runs after again re-installing Windows.
