BSOD and freeze up problems

Hi,

I've had BSOD and comp freezing for quite some time now.
My comp just randomly disable my USBs, lock up or just BSOD ...
I've had this comp for less than a year, it was originally running Win XP pro and had the same problems. I've bought a new HDD WD 500G and installed Win7 pro ... same crashes.
I hope you guys can help

BSOD is caused by a USB device, try plugging it in another USB port

This was likely caused by the following module: usbehci.sys
Bugcheck code: 0xFE (0x5, 0x8597C0E0, 0x80863B3C, 0x868798A0)

ok I'll change the port I'm using and see if there is any difference but I may have done that a hundred time already

Is there a driver to re-install or repair ?
fyi I bought a powered usb hub because of this usb problem but it didnt change anything ...

So I've had 2 more total freeze up since my last post.

Is there anything I can do to fix that ?
Is it a motherboard problem ? RAM ? ...

It's possible it is the usb port.

I recommend trying to disable the usb port and see if the problem persists. It could be a conflict with the port or the port, itself, could be bad.

Faz0222, sorry you are having problems. I took a look at your dump and also the dump from October 6th.

Error code 9F, DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. Usual causes: Device driver

Error code FE, BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER. Usual causes: USB device driver.

Note that both of these crashes were caused by drivers; so that is where we will start.

First, I recommend that you uninstall Kaspersky while you are troubleshooting. Use this uninstall tool: Tool. Kaspersky has been known to cause BSOD's on some Win 7 systems. Once you get your system stable, you can try it again; but I do not recommend doing so. Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials in its place and make sure Windows Firewall is turned on. The idea in troubleshooting is to eliminate all possible causes of BSOD's.

You have a number of out of date drivers loading on your system. Out of date drivers can and do cause conflicts, memory corruption and BSOD's. You should update these drivers, beginning with those in red font.

Lemur - This comp has about 10 usb ports

how do I know which one to disable and how do I do this ?
Someone pointed out that it could be a USB power problem, so I've been using a powered USB hub that is only connected to 1x of the computer's port (I know, what a waste) but I've been having the same disconnect and freeze problems even after switching port ...

CarlTR6 - I'll do all this tonight and see how it goes ^__^

CarlTR6 - Kaspersky removing tool could not detect KIS2011 so I've used the basic uninstaller and replaced KIS with Microsoft Security Essentials as you suggested.

lvpopflt.sys, LVUSBSta.sys, lvuvc.sys are all for my web cam which I could not find any Win7 drivers for so I've unplugged it for now and will buy a new one

I can't seem to find any installation software for the cam, should I delete those 3x drivers by hand or just leave them ?

I've found 3x instances of the pcouffin.sys file and was able to rename one to pcouffin.bak in my C:\Users\Anthony\AppData\Roaming folder.
The 2x other instances are located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers and in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\pcouffin.inf_x86_neutral_3aabe1612ec941ae , those are "access denied", is there any way around it ?

"See if you get anymore crashes. If you do, upload the dumps and we will go from there."

You might go to the Kaspersky site and see if they have an updated tool for 2011. If there is one, download it and run it. I guarantee there are remnants all over your system. That is not a slam against Kaspsersky; all security suites deeply entwine into your system. That said, by uninstalling through Windows, the drivers will not load and that was the objective.

I suggest that you rename them from .sys to .bak in the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers folder. After you install an new camera, you can delete them if you wish.

There are two ways around this. (1) You can right click on the Drivers folder and click on Take ownership. (2) You can right click on each file individually and take ownership of only the files you wish to work with. This latter method will keep you from inadvertantly messing anything up in the Drivers folder. Renaming them in the Drivers folder is the key to preventing them from loading.

Faz, I didn't recommend disabling usb as a permanent solution. Just a way of isolating where the conflict is. Another option is to disconnect all unneeded usb devices, placing mouse and keyboard on front usbs, then back usbs.

Should I update LVUSBSta.sys (and how) or just keep it as .bak ?

Lemur - I understand, will this work if I plug all my usb devices onto my external powered usb hub and them plug my hub into 1 usb at a time to try them out ?
Currently some devices disconnect randomly, my game controller stop working and just blink, my keyboard works every 2 seconds ... etc ...
It seems that the physical port I plug my hub is irrelevant since when a disconnect occur, only 1 device will disconnect, not all ... just a guess

Also, it seems to be 100% sure to get a usb disconnection on the initial cold boot, once I reboot for the 2nd time everything runs smoothly... weird ...

so far no freeze or BSOD but still lots of usb trouble ...
I'll continue to swap my hub and test each port slowly ,is there anything I can do ? :huh:

another update ...
after restarting, my sound died, "No Audio Output device is installed".
I could not find any uninstaller, so I went to the device manager and uninstalled all the sound controllers marked "!", restarted and installed the updated Realtek HDaudio drivers from MSI.com (my motherboard), restarted again ... and still no audio device detected :huh:

Is that related to the 4x .sys driver I renamed .bak ?? I thought they were for the web cam !

Also, I have an "unknown device" listed in the device manager under USB controllers.
"Location Port_#0003.Hub_#0005"
"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
So I've disabled it and nothing happened, is that a bad port ?

Any idea what's going on ?

The Realtech audio was successfully enabled after I renamed LVUSBSta.sys. :huh:

Very good troubleshooting work. It is interesting that a camera driver affected your sound. Try to update LVUSBta.sys from this link: Downloads. Also try updating your sound card drivers. I assume your sound card is built in? If so, you can try updating all of your chipset drivers.

Good research! Try to update the driver from this link: Realtek

If you cannot update the driver, I suggest that you purchase a new sound card that is certified compatible with Win 7. This driver is basically an XP driver and, remember, it was implicated as being part of the crash in some of your dumps.
