BSOD appears 1 or 2 days of running windows 7 continousley

Hi,

I have just installed Windows 7 Professional on my Dell Latitude laptop. The purpose of the laptop is to stay on 27/7 and collect data from 2 serial ports. The two serial ports that are connected are a GPS receiver where the binary GPS data is logged using the GPS receiver manufacturers software, and a meteorological sensor which captures pressure ant temperature data and puts it onto a file through a python script that I developed. I run these two applications 24/7 on the Dell laptop, and I also make sure that I lock the screen. Both the GPS data and the Meteorological data logs data onto separate day files i.e at each 24 hour cycle a new file is created where the data is logged.

Every 2 to 3 days of running Windows 7 continuously the BSOD appears.

I want to now determine if this problem is actually solvable, and I can safely run my Dell laptop or any computer safely with Windows 7 while these 2 applications are running 24/7 365. I would greatly appreciate if someone could tell me whats going wrong and why the BSOD appears.

You can give that a try.

I notice some other drivers not installed,

The chipset drivers should fix the top and bottom one,

The middle one seems to reference the freefall driver,

Since you just installed Windows it's possible those are marked in device manager with a :warn:

There was also a mention of the graphics driver in one dump, but it is up to date so I wouldn't mess with that at the moment.

Update the wireless and chipset drivers then the freefall driver and see how things go.

BSOD still persists after updating drivers

Hi,

Thank you for your response, I have updated all the drivers like you mentioned, however there is still 1 driver "Universal Serial Bus(USB) controller" which is failing to update. It still shows that yellow exclamation mark in the device manager. I have uploaded all the dump files again, there should be an extra .dmp file which shows the crash dump of today's BSOD. I feel that all the binary data files are being dumped into one folder. The binary data files keeps changing every hour i.e cnvl1.bin is the binary data file for the first hour, and this keeps going cnvl2.bin, cnvl3.bin etc. through out the day. Could this be a memory issue? Please let me know if you require any more information about my application.

As for your question on memory, this bugcheck is usually specifically a driver.

I notice your installed memory states

Total Physical Memory:     3,508 MB

I'm guessing you have 4GB installed but being a 32bit system it is only recognizing 3.5 of it which is normal.

I'll have someone else look at this and see if they can add anything further.

Also, this should be the driver for the USB controller,

Thanks for the driver. It has now successfully been installed. I updated the driver that caused a problem the second time also with the link that you provided me. Ideally do you think it is possible for windows 7 OS able to run such an application 24 7?

You're welcome, I see no reason why it shouldn't.

I'm not sure what the actual application is but as long as the resources are available it should run fine.

Sometimes newer is not always better.

And remove these items from the startup menu,
