Hey guys!
I hope you can help me, those BSODs are bugging me for a couple of weeks now...

Most of the time they pop up shortly after Windows has booted up. Sometimes I get them while playing a game or surfing the web, no real pattern there.

I already tried replacing RAM and HDD, but still get those same pesky BSODs. Did a fresh installation of Win 7 as well. The BSODs stopped a while, but came back soon enough.

I got an OEM version of Win 7 Home x64 installed. The system is roughly one month old and I've been getting the BSODs a couple of days after starting the system up for the first time.

I would be eternally grateful, if someone were able to help me :)

netr28ux.sys - Ralink RT2870 series USB802.11n Wireless Adapter Driver (you may have a different manufacturer); USB Wireless network adapters are unstable in general because the USB ports do not supply the power required to be reliable. With an out of date driver, this may be causing further conflicts.

Many of your crashes were DirectX/graphics card related. DirectX comes installed with Windows, so this may indicate Windows corruption. It may also be that you have corrupted drivers or a graphics card hardware problem.

Follow the steps for Diagnosing basic problems with DirectX. To re-install your display card drivers as outlined in the DirectX link, use the following steps.

  1. Download the drivers you want for your display card(s)
  2. Click Start Menu
  3. Click Control Panel
  4. Click Uninstall a program
  5. For AMD:
    • Uninstall AMD Catalyst Install Manager if it is listed (this should remove all AMD graphics software and drivers)
    • If AMD Catalyst Install Manager is not listed, use the following method to uninstall the graphics drivers (this applies to onboard graphics, as well):
      1. Click Start Menu
      2. Right Click My Computer/Computer
      3. Click Manage
      4. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
      5. Expand Display adapters
      6. Do the following for each adapter (in case you have multiple display cards)
        • Right click the adapter
        • Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
        • Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK

        Alternatively:
        1. Login as an adminstrative user
        2. Click Start Menu
        3. Click Control Panel
        4. Click Hardware and Sound
        5. Click Device Manager (the last link under Devices and Printers)
        6. Expand Display adapters
  6. Restart your computer after uninstalling drivers for all display cards
  7. Install the driver you selected for the display cards once Windows starts

Remember to try multiple versions of the graphics drivers, download them fresh, and install the freshly downloaded drivers.

Thanks you very much for your quick response.
I followed all the steps you described:

1. I uninstalled Tune Up Utilities (was able to restore the windows registry to the point before using the tool as well)
2. I checked for windows corruption. Everything was fine, even after the 1st run. No errors whatsoever.
3. I updated the WLAN drivers to the most recent version I could find.
4. Followed the guide for diagnosing problems with directx and uninstalled/re-installed the graphic card drivers.
5. Now I'm waiting for the next BSOD - which hopefully will not come :)

Hello again!
Well, my BSODs disappeared for a while.
Now I got some other problems:

When I boot my computer for the 1st time of the day it starts up, boots win 7 and after a couple of minutes it freezes. Then I reboot and it seems to work fine for a while.
Then, when I play a game, the PC freezes again after some time. The screen gets all distorted with weird colours and it's time to reboot :(

And I also had one new BSOD in between, with "Bad Pool Header". I attached the minidump.

Another thing I noticed: after my PC froze while playing a game my ASUS board M4A79XTD would give me the warning that I should stop overclocking. I checked everything, but I don't overclock whatsoever. I'm puzzled. I'll try and check, whether my CPU is overheating without overclocking due to insufficient cooling power or maybe a lack of heatsink paste. Another idea I had: could it be that my PSU is too weak? It's 450W, shouldn't that be sufficient?

Your help is appreciated, as always :)

Sorry, I'm a little murky (pardon the pun) on your system. What components are installed? If you need help with whether the PSU is enough, please fill in your system specs in your profile and not in a post in this thread: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/180324-system-info-see-your-system-specs.html

Your graphics card says: a 500 Watt or greater power supply recommended. 550 or 600 W would be better than the 450 W you have.

Crash indicates a driver problem, but does not specify which driver. I suspect mv61xx.sys because it is out of date and the device has very little support past Vista. Here is info on finding an update for that device: http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/232442-difficulty-finding-mv61xx-sys-marvell-raid-controller.html

Thanks for your input & quick response!

I just updated my system specs in my profile. It would be great if you could recommend me a PSU, that I should use, rather than the "bequiet 450W" installed right now. Did some research on my own and found this one: Cooler Master Silent Pro M600 Is it any good?

Anyway, I got the error where my system freezes and the screen gets all distorted while just installing MS Office today. And another thing: my PC froze while statring up win 7.
I'm pretty puzzled. Seems to be a hardware problem, but which part? RAM and HDD are brand-new and I also tested the RAM a few times with no errors...

Oh, and I also updated the Marvell Driver, so that should cause no problems anymore.

Looks like a good PSU. It's 80plus certified, so it is efficient.

We should make sure the RAM is compatible: Download and install CPU-Z and Upload screenshots of the CPU, Mainboard, Memory, and SPD tabs. In the SPD tab, upload an image of each slot.

Your RAM is designed for Intel systems or newer AMD processors. Your older processor cannot support the frequency without some voltage changes (and possibly not even then, but we should try before setting out to buy new, compatible RAM).

Go into your BIOS and post all Voltages (CPU, RAM, NB, IMC, etc.) and all RAM settings (timings, frequency, etc.)

Thanks to Dave76 for help learning RAM Stability

Try setting the first four timings to 9-9-9-24 and the frequency to 1333 MHz. See if that provides more stability first. Then we can try some other settings if needed.

Do you think buying a new PSU would improve the overall stability of my system, or should the current PSU (bequiet 450W) be sufficient for my setup?

The current PSU is probably sufficient, but it is difficult to say for sure. Running with a lower power PSU when a higher one is recommended can put strain on the PSU and lower its lifetime. If it were me, I would consider replacing the PSU at some point to provide better stability and reliability to the system.

Hello again!
Yesterday I set my memory to the timings and frequency you gave and everything seemed fine. However, when I booted up today, I soon got another BSOD (minidump attached) and the computer would restart by itself :(
What are my options now?

Crashes still indicate memory as the likely cause. Bump your NB Voltage to 1.2 Volts (or as close as you can get) after setting it to manual.

If you still get crashes with those settings:
  • An underlying driver may be incompatible\conflicting with your system. Run Driver Verifier to find any issues. To run Driver Verifier, do the following:
    a. Backup your system and user files
    b. Create a system restore point
    c. If you do not have a Windows 7 DVD, Create a system repair disc
    d. In Windows 7:
    • Click the Start Menu
    • Type verifier in Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
    • Right click verifier and click Run as administrator
    • Put a tick in Create custom settings (for code developers) and click next
    • Put a tick in Select individual settings from a full list and click next
    • Set up the individual settings as in the image and click next
      View attachment 217176
    • Put a tick in Select driver names from a list
    • Put a tick next to all non-Microsoft drivers.
    • Click Finish.
    • Restart your computer.

If Windows cannot start in normal mode with driver verifier running, start in safe mode. If it cannot start in safe mode or normal mode, restore the system restore point using http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html OPTION TWO.

If you are unable to start Windows with all drivers being verified or if the blue screen crashes fail to create .dmp files, run them in groups of 5 or 10 until you find a group that causes blue screen crashes and stores the blue screen .dmp files.
The idea with Verifier is to cause the system to crash, so do the things you normally do that cause crashes. After you have a few crashes, upload the crash reports for us to take a look and try to find patterns.

When you are ready to disable Verifier: Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right click Command Prompt -> Run as administrator -> Type the following command and then Enter:
    verifier /reset
    -> Restart your computer.

Thanks, I will try the verifier-approach. But I guess it's something with the hardware. Just now, my computer refused to boot up, freezing once inside the BIOS and a 2nd time during startup (BIOS splash screen). The third time I succeeded...

That definitely sounds more like hardware. Verifier probably won't yield anything useful in that regard. :(

You may need to swap out the PSU and/or memory.

Hello again!
Thanks for all your support. I switched RAMs and now the system is somewhat stable. Today however, I encountered a funny problem. I pressed the button to power up my PC and it would take a couple of mkinutes before it would boot up. Lamps and everything were lit, but the boot procedure only started later. Strange, maybe the PSU is not working properly after all. I guess I will order a new one today and see how swapping it works out ;)
Once again, thanks for all your help! I greatly appreciate it!
Have a nice weekend!
