Solved BSOD at random times

I have a dedicated machine that I pay for. I put windows 7 enterprise on it, all the updates, all the MB drivers. But it seems to randomly crash every so often with a CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello charliejoe, and welcome to Seven Forums. I will try to help with this problem if I can. You have 5 dump files. Each one is very consistent.

Code:
BugCheck F4, {3, fffffa801f7aeb30, fffffa801f7aee10, fffff80002b94130}
----- ETW minidump data unavailable-----
Probably caused by : csrss.exe
Followup: MachineOwner

Code:
[COLOR=red]CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION (f4)[/COLOR]
A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been
terminated.
Several processes and threads are necessary for the operation of the
system; when they are terminated (for any reason), the system can no
longer function.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000003, Process
Arg2: fffffa80200aab30, Terminating object
Arg3: fffffa80200aae10, Process image file name
Arg4: fffff80002b7d130, Explanatory message (ascii)

Each of them list as the cause

Code:
fffff880`02fac018 fffff880`058bad00Unable to load image \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\dump_iaStorA.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for dump_iaStorA.sys
*** [COLOR=red]ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for dump_iaStorA.sys
[/COLOR] dump_iaStorA+0x433d00

iaStor is a part of Intel Rapid Storage Technology which is Intel's Raid driver. It also contains Intel's AHCI driver. Several of the dumps included

Code:
EXCEPTION_CODE: (NTSTATUS) 0xc0000006 - The instruction at 0x%p referenced memory at 0x%p. The required data was not placed into memory [COLOR=red]because of an I/O error status[/COLOR] of 0x%x.

FAILURE_ID_HASH_STRING: km:x64_[COLOR=red]0xf4_ioerr_image_csrss.exe[/COLOR]

In my experience, an I/O error most of the time relates to the hard drive. It is possible that these are warnings of an impending Hard Drive Failure. It can also be the IRST causing the Hard drive to error.

In your system specs, you list raid 1 hard drive. If you are using IRST for the raid, uninstalling it will break your raid. I would suggest running tests to see if both hard drives are functioning properly. But, based on what I can tell, the problem stems from hard drive errors which copuld be the drive itself or some driver, such as IRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) causing it.

Next steps

Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly! I'm very glad you narrowed it down.

What do you propose I do next? I'm not exactly sure how to do diagnostics on a raid. Will just booting up and doing a chkdsk work?

Also the driver is quite confusing. The only driver I could get to work was the one from supermicro. Any idea how to figure out what the newest driver actually is?

It's difficult to find, but Intel would be the place to look, either there or your motherboard web site for your particular board. My guess would be that you have raid installed using the IRST driver from Intel. IRST is also supposed to have a utility that will tell you if one of your drives is showing errors. It is usually installed with the driver.

As far as how to test Raided hard drives, I will need to check. Most of the hard drive tests will not even see an array. You may try a check disk on the array. I realize that is not much help, but it's the best I can do on short notice.

chkdsk

I'm running a chkdsk now. It hasn't reported errors but I noticed slowness a few times. That may be an indication.

The intel software console that came with the driver has some GUI problem and it wont display for some reason. So I can't use that to see anything. I figured if there was a problem there would be an event or something. But that's not necessarily the case.

I saw that this utility can look at the SMART info for each drive individually. I'll try that next.

About the driver. That exe will automatically detect the correct driver?

I have never heard of that tool before, which doesn't mean much But, I am leery of third party toold working on Windows. Most of them can do a ;lot of harm.

Are you using the enterprise version of IRST or the normal version of IRST. I have an X99 board and am using the IRST and have had no problems, (yet). But, I am not using the RSTe. I'm using the IRST V 13.1.0.1058. What they say about only the first 6 ports is true, but on my board the other 4 ports are ASmedia ports, so is under a different controller. I am sure your board and CPU are much more enterprise versions than mine too. So, what I'm saying may not apply to you.

Yeah, It's the enterprise version since it's a Xeon MB. I'll close this thread. Hopefully it will stay stable ;-). Thanks so much for your help!!

no boot

So I'm kind of hosed. I realized that the raid drivers were causing crashes, having tried a bunch of versions. So I broke the raid in the MB bios and the intel chipset bios. Luckily this didn't wipe the drive and it booted up okay. But the raid drivers were still there and kept causing crashes. So I decided to uninstall them and somehow in the process windows now refuses to boot again. The graphic starts up, the spinning dots and they stop at some point. When I boot in safe mode it stops at the classpnp.sys. The repair doesn't work. The restore point also doesnt seem to work. I can get to the command prompt, but am clueless if there is something I can do to fix it or am I forced to rebuild the system?

Try putting the BIOS sata controller back to raid and see if that helps. If that doesn't work, try AHCI.

did the trick

Setting it back to RAID and doing a system restore seemed to do the trick. ANy idea how I actually get rid of this driver then and get rid of the raid all together?

Now that you know you can set it back to Raid and boot, please try setting it to AHCI and see if it will boot. It should. That driver also has the Intel AHCI driver included in it. If you can boot into AHCI, I believe we can switch drivers.

According to that you still have iaStore (IRST) installed. See if you can find it in add remove programs. IRST is Intel's Raid controller. But, it also has the Intel AHCI driver. So, you should be able to boot with AHCI enabled in BIOS.

yes

I uninstalled it. Everything but the driver was removed, saying it was needed to access the HD.
But afterwards, when I switch to AHCI in the BIOS it refuses to boot.

I have arconis true image. I'm thinking of switching to AHCI or IDE and then restoring using the universal restore. What do you think?
