Hi, I've had several issues with my HP m8247c. I've had professional diagnostic completed indicating possibly failing HD as well as bad mobo. I'm not necessarily convinced after trying several HDs and getting to this point running in safe mode. So I've got it up and running and getting various results both bad/good. Now getting BSODs...currently running in Safe mode and unable to run system info but much included in my profile about system. Have attached .zip file for analysis. Seemingly a driver issue that I can't ID or perhaps mobo is not healthy and not worth repair cost. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Cub3838.

First of all, you need to install Service pack 1 and all other windows updates. Otherwise the system will remain vulnerable to threats including BSODs.
Code:
[COLOR=Red]Windows 7 Kernel Version 7600 MP[/COLOR] (2 procs) Free x64
Product: WinNt, suite: TerminalServer SingleUserTS Personal
Built by: 7600.16385.amd64fre.win7_rtm.090713-1255

Next, the ViXS Tuner Card (NTSC) - V has a driver that is not compatible with windows 7, as it is much older than windows 7 released.
Code:
    Image name: xcbdaVx64.sys
[COLOR=Red]    Timestamp:        Mon Sep 15 14:34:16 2008[/COLOR]
Search for any possible update in ViXS Support and apply it. If there is no updates available then remove the device.

Let us know for any further BSOD.

BSOD & KSOD won't allow updates

Arc, many thanks for the feedback. Troubleshoot easiest thing first...unplugged the tuner card for now and will revisit later if I can get this thing back running securely. Not a critical feature for me. As for the driver I reloaded one I could find...looks to be same. It worked fine several mos ago with W7 so not sure the prob...perhaps associated with your first finding regarding installing SP1? Anyway I'm now back looking at KSOD & cursor or I can boot to the safe modes with seemingly no way to install any important updates.

I did a clean install on a clean disk utilizing my Vista upgrade pack disk and have had issues with trying to complete the various Win Updates (assume this includes SP1...etc?) along with the BSOD & KSOD challenges. And now can only successfully boot into Safe modes (w/KSODs) and updates don't seem available in these modes?? Maybe scrap everything and try to install Win7 iso from web via USB?...are some iso available with SPs already included (link please if available)? I can call MS and provide upgrade key for activation.
I've been at this for parts of wks...maybe it IS a mobo issue? Hate giving up on what has been a serviceable unit for many yrs with still good speed/performance (when working!!). But frankly I'm running out of options and patience...not worth spending $75-100 for a replacement board. Tks again!

If you unplug the ViXS Tuner, does it behave the same?

Only changes I've noticed is no BSOD but still going to KSOD or hanging at splash screen. Frankly, I've had trouble tracking exactly what happens/changes with so many options/mods try...very sporadic in what it comes back doing. The only for sure is there is never a clean boot up. I've restarted via launcher and normal...no luck. Again if I am able to boot into Safe modes not much I can do there in terms of updates. Unless you disagree or have another option I'm going to clean disk and re-install ISO with USB and see what happens...nothing to lose but more wasted time. Tks!

In this sitution it would be great to attempt a clean reinstall. If it is driver related issue, then a clean reinstall (without the tuner) will solve the issue; but if teh issue remains, then the notion will go to the hardware, as you already suspect.

Up and running

Arc, many thanks... as of right now machine loaded clean W7 32-bit iso via usb and has rebooted clean 3x during updates including SP1. Fingers crossed but I think we may have saved this machine. I'm going to run this for a wk or so then take chance to install 64-bit...any issues with doing so? Can I do a clean 64bit install via the Vista Upgrade disks? Thanks again!
