BSOD / Blue screen while using ICS

Hi, my WIndows 7 desktop host gets a blue screen of death whenever i use internet connection sharing on my laptop. I've attached two small memory dumps and a kernel memory dump. This doesnt seem to happen if the desktop uses the 64-bit version but i'm missing some drivers so i'd rather find another workaround.
Also, strangely the games which rely on visual c (and games for windows live) get runtime errors or even crash periodically.

Not a nice set of dumps - the first one blames video, the other 2 blame networking.

Let's start with the networking - please update your networking drivers, to particularly include downloading new drivers for your USB SpeedTouch device. As you can see below, the SpeedTouch drivers are very outdated (they are the one's dated from 2003).
Then uninstall the device from Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program BEFORE installing the freshly downloaded driver package.

Also, please remove or update these older drivers that were loaded at the time of the crash. Don't use Windows Update or the Update drivers function of Device Manager.
Please use the following instructions to locate the most currently available drivers to replace the one's that you uninstall OR remove:

How To Find Drivers:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

You've included just the nasty steps i made. I just updated the Network drivers via Windows Update (i usually never install them since windows recognizes them instantly). Should i get the "official" drivers from the realtek website?

Also i preferred the speedtouch original drivers since the new ones create another "fictional" LAN connection next to the DSL/PPOE one, even though the modem is actually on USB.

The video card drivers are the official up-to-date nvidia drivers, and directx is the 2010 february redistributable.

I will try the steps you mentioned, just for the sake of it, although i kinda do remember having the same sort of problems (not so often though) using fresh 64 drivers on that version of windows.

On the other hand the games that are crashing might be just due to some "faulty" builds (i also reinstalled windows without reinstalling my games, since it's a pain to restore just the savegames too), albeit this might not be the only reason.

Thanks a lot for your quick reply, i'll try your steps and give you some feedback this weekend, else i'll just have to stick with the 64-bit windows, with the new non-working webcam drivers. :huh:

EDIT: I forgot to mention that i'm relying on some utilities such as netlimiter, daemon tools and logmein remote video mirror, all updated to their latest versions, which install themselves as fictional drivers. I never knew the minidumps were actually any good, maybe i'll start collecting them from now on. :sarc:

I fail to see the connection between utorrent re-hasing some big files (since the crashes) and the video drivers failing, and i also dont know of any CPU-Z testing utilities (hwinfo maybe?). The LAN thingie seems to have 100% repro, i'll renew de drivers and delete the old ones.

I never ever had this problem with Vista 64 Ultimate. But Windows 7 Professional 64 is another story... From my own experience, if I let windows update, update my Gigabit LAN. Then and only then I get the BSOD... I can literally let Windows update everything and its fine. But if i let it update my REALTEK PCIe GBE, it messes everything up. Hopefully this can help someone with the same problem.

Eye opener, you were right. Don't see the connection since i wasn't even using the network card at that time, but a very ugly bug from Micro$oft Update (not Realtek or Nvidia). :shock:

EDIT: Rolled back the drivers for both my Realtek Network cards to the original Windows-Installed drivers. Hoping for the best.

rolled back the drivers to the original ones included with windows, and everything worked fine.
installed the official new drivers from the realtek website and i got a blue screen upon booting.
so i guess i'll just stick with the ones that work and hope i won't be seeing microsoft's trademark coloured screen anytime soon thanks!
