BSOD Centering around ntoskrnl.exe, IRQL Not less than or Equal

I have been having multiple BSOD while running gaming applications, almost always being IRQL not less than or equal messages, with varying memory addresses.

It only occurs during the gaming, as I seem to be able to keep it open to browse pdfs or the internet easily enough, and only during certain higher stress points of the game. (MMORPG group play in busy areas, or combat in single player games tend to trigger it, while menus and 'quiet' portions seem to run fine.

The problem existed months ago and prompted me to replace the motherboard, ram, and processor all in the course of a week and a half. The problem vanished for a while, and then came back within a few weeks. The same vanishing occurred when I switched my computer into a clean boot mode, and it was gone for 3 days and then returned again.

I've tried some other fixes, such as replacing the offending files from the install disc and recovery x: drives, and have been updating drivers as much as I can but I really have no idea where the problem truly is. Any assistance at this point would be amazing. Thank you for your time and I look forward to your help!

I have also run driver verifier and windows would refuse to boot when certain drivers were set in the verifier, though we replaced those drivers as well, and couldn't find any that would cause a lack of booting after that point.

I have been directed by other friends to try memtest86 (16 passes while it was on for a good 18 hours) and system file checker, as well as the Western Digital hard drive checking program & windows own scan disk, all have come up clean. If that helps at all.

NOTE!
You are using driver version 320.49 which has been proven

to be buggy and unstable.

I recommend,

  1. Removing the driver | Uninstall nVidia Graphics Drivers
  2. following with a pass of Driver Sweeper | Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling
  3. Download | 314.22

  • When installing select Custom Settings and uncheck:
  • 3D Vision (all of them).
  • HD Audio.
  • Nvidia Updates.
  • Don't install Geforce Experience.
  • Do check Preform a clean installation.

Did the driver update you mentioned and the cleaner, and here is the picture with both modes going. Definitely looks like the video card is getting hot during gameplay.

I just had another BSOD (Irql, ntoskrnl.exe) during gameplay, but this time the temperature was only 53 (I had just checked about a minute prior)

I can see you already have Malwarebytes installed, when was the last time you updated and performed a full scan?
Your system specs state you have Avast install but I don't find it in your Program Groups,
is it installed? Do you have a different anti-virus installed?

I had avast, I am honestly not sure where it went. I haven't done a system restore or anything that I recall removing it for since I got the mobo and processor but I don't recall actually removing it. I'll remove that from the specs.

Full scan has been a while so I am starting it now to update that as we speak.

The full scan had 3 pup.optionals, took care of those, part of installer.exes from other programs. Had a few bsod that interrupted the full scan a few times (and even a power outage). Finally got it done while I was at work today.

I'm preparing my personal files, zipping them up in case formatting and reinstalling proves the best option.

How are the BSOD, have you had any since?

If you have run Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller and post the results!
A clean install is always a good idea if you are willing to.

That program found a rootkit of high risk "Rootkit.Boot.Pihar.c" and I chose to cure, and will be rebooting. Will be back later tomorrow but I have had more BSoD's so posting a fresh SF for you too. Windows Malicious Software Remover also found a virus called Alureon it removed.

Got all my files stored and everything set for the install, I'm just seeing if the bsod comes back after those last cleaning actions to confirm if they were causing it.
