BSOD Crash

Hi there

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW41E/H laptop with a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 card. The computer is about 1½-2½ years old, and the first amount of time there was no problems at all. I've been fighting with this crash for a while now though, tried to reinstall the system once, it helped, but then it started happening again. The problem is, that everytime I play a "demanding" game on my pc, my computer crashes. The screen turns black and I hear a weird buzzing noice, and there is nothing to do but force restart by pressing the power button. I have no problems in for example "Minecraft", "Heroes of Newerth" or "Bloodline Champions". But in games like "Assassin's Creed", "Mirror's edge" and "Bulletstorm" I have the same kind of crash, sometimes 5-10 minutes in game, sometimes 30 minutes in.

I read something about audio drivers could cause the problem, and I saw that I had 3 audio drivers. I deactivated 2 of them, in case that might be the problem. I tried installing ALOT of diffrent drivers. I checked if overheating was the problem, and I do get high temps sometimes (75-80 degrees celcius) but it doesn't seem to affect the crash, because as mentioned I don't crash in games like the ones mentioned above. I never had luck in solving this particular problem. I therefore hope that you guys can help me, because I've given up solving this problem on my own.

Another thing which is very weird to me, is that the official ATI drivers are not supported by my computer (Sony Vaio), so ATI redirects me to the Sony drivers, but the only ATI driver for my system on Sony's website is really old. I have it installed now just to follow ATI's advice.

My OS:
Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
My computer was originally installed with Windows Vista Home Premium

I followed the "BSOD - Posting Instructions" and attached the .zip file.

I really hope that you guys can help me, this is driving me crazy.

Welcome to Seven Forums Danny

These were caused by memory corruption (usually from a driver). You have several that are old and need updating and we would like you to run two tests as well.

TESTS


Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.



Driver verifier

I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

How To Find Drivers:

- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

I ran the Memtest86 and it didn't find errors at all.

I then used driver verifier and managed to make my pc crash to BSOD
at startup, and it said the following file caused the crash: RTKVHDA.sys
I used the Driver Reference link, and found out that it was a
Realtek HD Audio Codec Driver. Although, I am unsure exactly what driver/package
I have to install.

I managed to install the yk62x86.sys driver I think.

The netw5v32.sys is a Intel Wireless WiFi Link Driver, but I don't know what driver/package to install?

The atikmdag.sys was my video card, and I managed to install the newest 11.6 for my computer.

The newest hamachi.sys is now installed.

The VSTDPV3.SYS, VSTAZL3.SYS and the VSTCNXT3.SYS is all Conexant SoftK56 Modem Drivers, but again I don't know what to install?

The SFEP.sys is Sony Firmware Extension Parser driver, but I couldn't find any update
on that driver on Sony website.

The rimsptsk.sys is my Ricoh Memory Card Reader driver. I just don't know what driver to install.

I hope that you can help me again, these drivers are so confusing, and I am scared of installing the wrong things. For me it looks like the RTKVHDA.sys is the most critical one, as it caused the BSOD after the verifier.

Unfortunately the crash is still there. Should I try to run the "BSOD Dump & System File Collection app"
and the "System Health Report" and upload a new .zip file so you guys can see if there is any difference
in drivers, etc.?

These were indeed blamed on memory corruption BUT caused by an as yet un named driver. Please run driver verifier to find out which.

Its our pleasure to help and it does appear that the realtek audio driver continues to be a problem. Sometimes with some mother boards the on board audio driver and BIOS conflict causing BSOD's. I would contact the mfr (or google your mobo and the realtek driver) to see if this is your issue.

If you remove the realtek driver you wont have any sound and when you reboot windows will attempt to re-install it

Okay so removing the driver is not an option. Well I guess my motherboard is
Manufacturer: Sony Corporation
Model: Vaio
Chipset: Intel PM45
Southbridge: Intel (ICH9-M)

..but I didn't really find anything about that
conflicting with Realtek when I searched google.

When I check device manager, it says:
Driver date: 14-06-2011
So I guess it is up to date?

I am really lost so I'm glad you guys can help me

I had another BSOD sadly. But when I look in Windows/Minidump, the latest .dmp file is from june 12th 2011, and I've had another BSOD earlier than that. I guess it hasn't
recorded the newest BSOD?

Also, when I tried to put the .dmp files into a .zip folder it just said "access denied" even when I did it as an administrator? How can I let you see my .dmp files? Or should I run a new DMP test and upload it to you?
