BSOD danew.sys

High there,

I had a BSOD and checked the memory.dmp file after installing WinDbg. Now I'm a total noob but I noticed two things. First it says 'symbols could not be loaded for danew.sys' and secondly 'Probably caused by : danew.sys ( danew+6da )'

I found out that danew.sys could be related to razer mouse (which I have) and so I updated the driver. Time will tell if this was the cause, but what do you think?

What about the symbols, what does that mean?

I think exactly what do you think. It is caused by the razor mouse, New DeathAdder Mouse driver.

So you should update it from Razer Support. And as you said, you have done it already.

At the same time you need to update Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection driver, too. As some network failures are also seen in the stack.

Update it from Intel Download Center.

Dont take it otherwise, but you should get rid of these programs too.

Start Menu\Programs\Free Registry Cleaner 
Start Menu\Programs\MSI
Start Menu\Programs\Norton 360
Start Menu\Programs\Norton Management

First tow are must to uninstall. About Norton, you may keep it until it is causing any problem. If you dont use it other than backups, it will not cause any problem hopefully.

Free up the startup.

1. Click on the Start button
2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
3. Select the “Startup” tab.
4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
5. Apply > OK
6. Accept the restart.

updated the intel lan driver as well (via MSI drivers)


Bit confused about Free registry cleaner (use that sometimes) and MSI, why should I uninstall them?
Norton is my firewall and virusscanner so that needs to stay

I just found something strange in device manager. The Razer mouse is listed under mous and pointers as Razer DeathAdder 3.5G wiht latest drivers. But also directly und my pc as Razer Device and when opening the tab as Razer Gaming Device with the old 2010 driver. When opening properties there is no way I can remove this (all grayed out). Any idea???

Ron,

Any type of registry cleaner program just mess windows7 registry hive up. Totally. Only one program you can use, that is CCleaner. At the same time, MSI programs are bloatwares, potential problem causers. AfterBurner is the worst of them.

About Norton, I understand your point. I suggested it, coz we see a lot of troubles with Symentac programs everyday. No, it does not mean that they are always the problems, but they may be, anytime.

Most of us believe (supported by evidence obviously) that Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows with windows inbuilt firewall and free MBAM on demand scan is the best security combination.

Detter you uninstall the mouse driver in device manager and then reinstall it again.
