Hi guys,

This is now happening a few times a day - if the PC is shut or left for a while - it is very annoying. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I have run the Seven Forums Diagnostic tool and uploaded the zip file for analysis.

Thank you very much

Welcome to SevenForums.

PROBLEMATIC SOFTWARE:

Code:
Start Menu\Programs\Ad-Aware Antivirus Public:Start Menu\Programs\Ad-Aware Antivirus Public
Start Menu\Programs\McAfee Family Protection Public:Start Menu\Programs\McAfee Family Protection Public
Please uninstall the above with Revo uninstaller Free in Advanced mode.

McAfee is a frequent cause of BSOD-s, consider uninstalling it with the McAfee Removal Tool and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials at least to test.
MSE is recommended from a strict BSOD perspective, compatibility & stability compared to other antiviruses/internet security software:-:warn: Do not start the free trial of Malware Bytes; remember to deselect that option when prompted.

Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated.

The following drivers need to be updated:

Click on the Start :orb: ► Control Panel ► Programs ► Uninstall a program ► Uninstall everything related to; Atheros and reboot the system. Delete remnants of its drivers/older drivers using Driver Fusion/Sweeper

Go to this link and check the system for the latest updates and install them.

Run the System File Checker. It allows the user to scan for and restore corruptions in Windows system files.

  • 1. Click on the :orb:
    2. Type CMD on Search
    3. Left click and Run as Administrator
    4. Type SFC /scannow

Run Disk Check on your hard disk for file system errors and bad sectors on it:

Free up the start-up, nothing except the antivirus is usually needed.

Post back your results and we'll do more troubleshooting if needed.

Hi Koolkat,

OK, I have been through all this, and so far everything has been stable. No crashes today.

I could pretty much get a BSOD at any time after closing and opening the lid of the laptop. This stopped as soon as I de-installed and re-installed the new version of the atheros wireless driver. I continued with the other steps though to be thorough and they all checked out. So it looks like the issue is resolved - I will monitor over the next week and update the thread if it comes back. Thanks again for the great advice.

Cheers

Still having issues

I replied to this thread with my own issues yesterday (cannot see that reply now for some reason) and you told me the problem was similar to the original post. I removed McAfee and installed MSE but I am still getting the BSOD. Twice today so far. The first time it happened whilst typing, the second time whilst in sleep mode.

Thank you
