I would appreciate some help please. I have a Sony VAIO VPCSB. This is my work laptop, and was working fine until I decided to set up and alternative user account for home use. As part of this process I restored a backup of files from my previous laptop (just docs and pictures). I changed a load of settings to be how I like them and installed a few of my favorite programs. During this process windows also shut down to install updates.

Now, when I leave the PC to idle, I get the attached BSOD. I am wondering whether it is related to to the laptop going into sleep mode as I have set it to after an hour in the power management settings.

The most recent BSOD was whilst Windows was shutting down to install some more updates, and as such it rolled back to before the update.

First time I have posted here, hope this info is sufficient to get started.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks,

I'm working through your suggestions - stumbling at each hurdle. I am not sure what the logilink device is - it may be a TP-Link print server which has not functioned properly since I installed it and it won't uninstall properly via the Uninstall Programs? Any thoughts? (I had already decided to stop it starting with windows startup, as I hd another BSOD whilst trying to shut it down (PFN_LIST_CORRUPT caused by NTFS.sys accordning to BlueScreen View)

Intel won't offer a driver as it was a custom sony driver - and there is no update available on the Sony website (there is for the AMD graphics driver) In Device manager both display adapters are listed ? the Intel is on the Mobo but not used for display.

I have unistalled Avast and installed MSE.

However there is a BIOS update fixing a bug with suspend/resume - should I install this?

Hi,
You could try to remove the driver manually.

Please navigate to:

C:\windows\system32\drivers

Search for the GenHC.sys driver and rename it to GenHC.sys.old
Reboot your machine. That will stop your BSOD from that driver.

You could use CCleaner to get rid of the program (top right for download):

http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

Download and install, once installed run and click on the "application tab",
and uncheck all but the program your wanting to uninstall and click "run cleaner"
Let me know the outcome?

Also run SYstem File Checker to check the integrity of all Windows 7 system files:

Click on the Start > Type in search cmd
Right click cmd at top and Run as Administrator
Type SFC /scannow at the prompt (note there is a space between SFC and /scannow)

Ensure you have all the latest Windows updates installed.

Post back a fresh .dmp file if you experience another crash after this.

cheers

Dave

Ok thanks, all done. SFC - no problems. rename GenHC.sys.old - no adverse effects on restart. Bios update ran smoothly. MSE found a trojan - removed. CCleaner removed "MFP Server" print server.

As this is an intermittent fault I'll change the power settings back as they were when getting BSOD and see how it goes.

I will post another dump if further problems.

Thanks for your help. Once I am confident problem is resolved I'll mark as solved.

Good work :)

We can leave the Intel driver issue until after the next BSOD occurs, hopefully it wont.
