Got this new Dell laptop for my wife last summer and started getting BSODs in a random nature. Sometimes when running applications such as Excel and often when laptop was closed (at rest). I did the Dell debug, research and downloaded supposed updated drivers and it seemed to help for a bit. Then it came back.

After the return I took the step to restore the laptop to it's original condition from Dell and then slowly reloaded applications, etc.. All seemed to be OK, but has now started again with the BSODs.

The Dell routine indicates that unknown drivers have been the culprits.

Those drivers noted are: storport.sys and smb_driver_intel.sys ...

I think those drivers are also current.

I've attached the zip file with all the pertinent information in the hopes that someone can help suggest a good and solid repair to this hiccup.

Thanks so much in advance.

you dont happen to use a plug in USB mouse and or any other usb components? As one thing your even log is showing is the hardware detection service is at fault.

My wife has a FitBit wifi device plugged into one of the USB ports. Short of that no other "always plugged in" USB devices.

She uses memory sticks (USB) to move files to/fro when working on them and I plug in an external HDD for backups via USB.

Just use the internal trackpad mouse built-in to the laptop.

Thanks. I've removed the FitBit WIFI USB device and I've also updated one or two more current drivers from the Dell support site.

I have another FitBit WIFI USB plugged into my Dell Latitude laptop ... and (so far) it has not given any indication of problems.

I'll do some digging to see if I can learn anything about hiccups with the FitBit drivers.

I'll update as it goes along, but it could be that it will be "quiet" for some time frame and then give me several BSODs ... all have pointed to those similar drivers, but I know that you can better understand with the zip file data I provided.

Any suggestions as to the recommended approach to repair the hardware detection service that you noted?

Cheers,
